i attend a small catholic high school and my class is one of the smartest classes ever to come through. through sophomore year, we had about 10 people with a 4.0 (weighted classes aren't offered until jr. year) when in the other classes there may have only been 2. well this last year, there were three of us that took all the weighted classes available to us. however, one of these took an extra class first semester and dropped to 3/57. another took a study hall second semester, which means she took one less class than me, dropping me to 2/57.

what i'm trying to ask is if i should note somewhere on my application my situation or if i should just let it go. my gpa is only about a 4.027 and that is with taking all the weighted classes offered next year. i will be taking the hardest curriculum ever offered there.

Golfer,

So are you saying that you are ranked 2nd?

If that's what your saying then no I would not worried about it. Being ranked 2nd in the class is awesome, and definitely good enough for ND. It wont hurt you at all.

even though it's only out of 57 and will be smaller by the time i graduate? i feel a lot worse for the person ranked 3. he's not even in the top 5 percent.

i think i have about the same problem... i was (am, not sure anymore) 1st but the person who's 2nd has a high GPA by taking no electives and easy classes... i wish i could indicate that to colleges somehow

well you have to take the % with a grain of salt.

You are graduating number 2 in your class... meaning that only 1 person did "better" than you. Its not your fault that there is only 57 kids in your class. IMHO there really isnt a large difference between the number 1-4 or 5 in class rank. There is just too many factors including course selection that can jumble that order.

I wouldnt worr bout it

yeah, that's sort of a "flaw" in the system of weighted GPA. For example, Spanish for us is not a weighted class, but our school allows you to take it pass/fail and it doesn't go on your gpa. I took spanish pass/fail meaning i got like a C and had a blow off class, meanwhile, other kids with the same weighted GPA as me did not take it pass fail and worked hard to get A's. My class rank rose above theirs because they got a 4 averaged into their weighted GPA (which was above 4) and I got nothing averaged into my weighted GPA! I win by doing less (much less lol)... totally an unfair flaw in the system...
