Hi,
My current school is very very big. My graduating class has 800+ students and the sad thing is that my school only ranks the top 10%. I was not ranked so I am not in the top 10% but then I have a very good gpa. I am thinking of applying to Yale University as a top school and I know how much they emphasize over gpa and class ranks. If it helps, this one kid from my current school was accepted into Yale and he was not in the top 10% because of how insanely competitive and hard my current school is.
Additionally, I am thinking of changing my school and transferring into a private school nearby that has fraction of children and has great opportunities for students. I am going to be a senior this year so I was wondering if I should or shouldn’t transfer? The only thing is that I am a president of a club in my school which I am very very passionate about but then again, I would really like to go that private school and not be around people who breathe on competition.
Thanks!
Just stay at the school you’re at. Don’t switch just for college. Class Ranking is not all that they look at.
Why were you going to change schools?
@“Erin’s Dad” because I can’t stand the competition in my current school, the pressure is unbelievable. I know someone might say ‘oh but you want to go to Yale, it will have full of those people’, I honestly don’t think it’ll get worst than this. Plus the private school I want to go to is closer to my home and offers great courses.
@“Erin’s Dad” Not to mention, I took a very rigorous course my junior and sophomore year and the honor class in my current school is as hard as an AP class at a normal school, my GC told me this herself. I just don’t want to know if I want to go through this my senior year, the last year of high school.
If you change high school, you may be ended up unranked. It is impossible for the GC to combine grades from different schools to rank unless they only consider the current year. My friend’s D was straight A students at all grade schools but change school at Junior year. She did not receive the honor as other students receiving 4.0 in all 4 years that ranked on top of the class.
@billcsho I am currently unranked because my current school only ranks the top 10%. I transferred to this school in my sophomore year because we moved from California to Texas. So maybe that’s why I am not ranked at my current high school, but I think it’s because of the competition and not because of me transferring.
OP, did you not understand the irony of my question? Someone in your exact same position got into Yale. You want to change schools to get into Yale. Get it?
@“Erin’s Dad” Yes I do get it but I don’t want to change my school just for Yale lol
