Class ranks in college???

Does anyone else's college/university figure class rank at the end of each semester? Surprisingly, Duke does. The students in the Trinity School of Arts and Sciences are ranked against each other, while the Pratt School has its separate ranking system. I just wondered how common or uncommon this is at other schools...

My school tells you your rank (within your respective college) after the first semester of your senior year. That's essentially when the cut-offs for Latin Honors are determined (it's univeristy-wide now that the first 5% get Magna, the next 10% get Suma and the next 15% get Cum Laude). I don't think we're told before then.

I believe you have "summa" and "magna" switched around.

Ooops...I do. My apologies.

is the "cum laude" ranking system the same at all colleges ? like is it always top 15% to get cum laude at any school?

No, some do it by GPA. My school for instance is 3.5 for Cum Laude, 3.71 for Magna Cum Laude, and 3.91 or the highest in class for Summa Cum Laude.
