Ok so I'm an incoming Sophomore and I'm planning to take these courses in the fall. What do you think about it?

Math 1B
Math 54
CS61A (taking CS61BL in summer because I heard that Hilfinger is terrible, therefore no CS61A in summer)
EE42 or College Writing R4B?

By “incoming sophomore”, do you mean that you were admitted as a freshman, but have a lot of AP credit? Would it be correct to assume that you intend to major in Computer Science?

Math 1B is nominally a prerequisite for Math 54. What math or AP have you had before?

What’s wrong with Hilfinger?

I’m currently a freshman and yes I am an intended CS major.

I’ve had Math 1A with Haiman and I absolutely thought it was easy. I heard that Hilfinger is one of those professors that makes you regret taking CS because he gives brutal midterms.

Probably best to take Math 1B (or H1B if you really like math), then take Math 54 the semester after.

Hard tests are not a problem unless (a) the grading scale is absolute (no curve) and the test is harder than they should be for the grading scale, or (b) the curved grade distribution is compressed at the bottom end leaving little distinction between students (note that too easy a test compresses the grade distribution at the top end, resulting in the same problem).
