Math H54 vs CS70?

So because of really, really, really poor-decision making (and a lack of Telebears understanding :P) I accidentally disenrolled myself from Math 54 when I was trying to switch sections.... Unfortunately, the waitlist for both 54 sections are completely full, and there's no way I can re-add the class at this time!

Would it be smart to take H54 and transfer back into 54 once spots open up + get added - which I'm assuming WILL happen? I've heard really bad things about H54 and I'm worried the class will tank my GPA if I stuck in it; I'm an intended CS major so I need to make sure I do well in any version of 54 to declare.

The other option I had was taking CS70 with Sahai, but I'm not sure if I can handle the course load along with Hilfinger's 61B...

Any suggestions? Thanks!

It seems like Liwei Lin is teaching H54 in Fall 2014? I know a MechE professor called Liwei Lin. He is very approachable and very nice. I am not sure if it is the same person. I searched online but found no other Liwei Lin at Berkeley who are qualified to teach.

You can check enrollment numbers in previous years on telebearsoracle . com to see if you plan has a big chance working out.

Hilfinger is “notorious” (good for you if you want to know how to program like a pro) for extremely-hard/long projects. Sahai is “notorious” for extremely-long problem sets. I used to be a grader for Sahai’s CS70, and it took me forever to grade the homeworks.

Anyway, if you are taking only two of {CS70, CS61B, MATHH54}, you can definitely survive. Be prepared for all-nighters.
