Class Selection

As an incoming freshman, I'm well aware of OPUS and the Atlas that deals with courses, descriptions, and availability. I also know that as a freshman class we don't select our courses until we get down to orientation in late August (I might be mistaken, but I think the specific registration date is Aug 29..).

Anyway, I also know that there is a bidding process (all online) to register for classes, and that the schedule is posted up the next day (Aug 30..). But, can somebody go into further detail about the bidding process as well as anything else he/she would like to add? Thanks a lot.

I am quite interested in this as well.

welll they'll go into plenty of detail and explain it all to you in your FAME group during orientation, so don't stress about it. it's not hard at all either. basically you select what classes you want on opus, along with alternates in case the one you want is full, and then for each class you put a certain number of points on it. you have 36 to use. if you really want/need a class or if it's almost full, you put a lot of points on it. if it's not full or you don't really care about it, you put a smaller number of points on it. this past semester i put 6 points on everything. and i got everything i wanted. ive heard rumors that you shouldnt do that because it only ranks them in terms of whatever has the most points is your #1 choice and ranks down from there, but it worked for me anyway.

the hardest part about registering for classes is finding alternates. you want to find alternates that are at the same time as the class you want so that if you get some alternates and some 1st choice, you still have an okay schedule.

after registration closes, your class schedule will be on opus, and if you need to, you can add/drop/swap for the next week i believe. i've never had to do that so i dont know much about it.

thank you verrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrry much.

Cookiemonster, does this bidding process apply for incoming freshman?

I'm not Cookie, but I can tell you that it does.

I wonder how many points the scholars get.
