So I'm considering to attend UCI as a business econ major from a CC

After I've checked out the major requirements on the school's website, I'm confused since I'm not sure what courses I should take as a transfer student

Based on the website, school requirements must be met and must include 20 courses as specified below:

* Economics 20A-B (satisfied by CC courses)
* Economics 15A-B
* Economics 25
* Mathematics 2A-B and 4 (2A&B satisfied by CC courses)
* Economics 100A-B-C
* Economics 122A-B
* Seven additional Economics courses, including at least four four-unit upper-division courses.

Basically, I think I do not need to take any more general courses since I have my IGETC satisfied from my CC

So does it mean the only courses I need to take in order to graduate are the 16 courses above?

Also, am I behind the schedule since I'm a transfer student and many of these courses are not offered at my CC?

If yes, do you guys recommend me to start early and take summer classes to get me back on track?

There is also the university and school requirements. The university requires you to take 1 upper division writing class if you have finished your IGETC. The social science school requires you to take 1 basic computer science / informatics class (you may have took it at your cc).

My suggestion is for your first quarter is at least econ 100A and math 4. Right away. If you already did cal 3 and differentials at your CC then you dont have to take math 4. Start on econ 15A first. Those two classes are a must if you want to finish in two years. If you are planning to get into the accounting minor then do Management 131A (intermediate accounting 1) immediately because that is only offered year round + summers. Take another elective if you want but remember CC might be nothing like the UC’s.

Other suggestions: Take summer session after junior year because you are already behind 1 year in economics for those who went straight from high school. Econ 100 series are usually finished by their sophomore year. But as a transfer student who has finished IGETC you have the upper hand on general ed so have the time to finish in 4 years if know what to take.

Oh and if you have taken financial accounting (ucla pre-req) I think it counts for econ 25 but im not sure. The site says management 30A can be replaced with econ 25 and management 30A is equivalent to financial accounting at a CCC.

Thanks a lot iTransfer… (btw, are you also a transfer student at UCI?)

I’m thinking about taking econ 100A or Math 4 this summer during second session though…

(do you think taking 2 courses at the same time during summer will be too much for newly transfer students?)

Also, I’ve taken Calc 3 at my CC but not differentials so I guess I may have to do Math 4 for my first quarter…

For accounting minor prerequisites, I’ve taken equivalent courses at my CC for Econ 20A, Math 2A, Management A&B so I guess I can just take Management 131A (hopefully I can replace econ 25 with Management 30A)

So here’s my plan for my first quarter: (pick 3 out of 4)

1.) Management 131A

2.) Econ 100 B (if I took 100A during the summer)

3.) Math 4 (if I didn’t take it during the summer)

4.) Econ 15A

I will appreciate if you guys can give me more suggestions for my first schedule! (kind of nervous lol)

Also, any more classes that are only offered year round + summers so that I can be aware of these?

I am not actually a student at UCI but I have done a lot of research on the school lol. I was accepted as a bio sci major for next fall but am considering changing to a bizecon major or maybe even double major in both.

I actually don’t know how tough summer session is. Its 5 weeks long so I wouldn’t take a big load. Math 4 is a pre-req for econ 15A so you cant take both at the same time. My suggestion is to take econ 100A and math 4 over summer if you can handle it or just math 4 by itself. I think math would be a lot easier to learn math over 5 weeks than a whole econ class and plus you have taken cal 3 already so you should be on top of your game on the math.

Yea looks good for your first quarter at a UC. If the schedule turns out to be too easy for you then take 4 classes next quarter. Also you should be looking for internships around there during that year. Landing one will surely give you a great start in the business world.

Don’t be discourage if you got rejected from UCLA either. UCI is a great school and you will be fine there if you work hard. I bet UCI’s prestige for business will significantly increase (maybe even over UCLA) in the future once the new undergrads of the business admin majors graduate and get the school’s name out there.
