Assuming that I get accepted to at least some of the 8 schools I applied to, I'm going to do some class/lunch visits so I can figure out which school is best.

Do you guys recommend doing a class or lunch visit at Columbia?

What do you do?

why don't you worry about this after you get in?

are you asian and do you live in new jersey? seeing as how that is a huge number of columbia applicants, wait to see the acceptance before revisiting. you'll have a whole month.

Can someone just answer the question?

I would like to know as well.

i agree with freefondue
not just to help me, but to help the general columbia hopeful community as well, what are the class visits/lunch visits like?

i got accepted ED this yr, but did a lunch visit in april last yr. i actually did it through the earth and environmental engineering department (although i recall there being a separate link on the website), and was also able to talk to the head of the department and another professor. overall, the visit to the campus, feedback from the undegrad who i had lunch with (i think they take u to where the professors get their food, not the student cafeteria lol), and info from the professors was extremely helpful in confirming my decision to apply ED. i didn't do any class visits though

thanks...anyone else have similar experiences

im not sure how to plan the trip..how do i sign up

You probably went to faculty house. Students can eat there too but can't use meal swipes for it. Can pay in cash or flex tho (maybe dining dollars too?)

Depends on what you want to see. If you're applying to CC then sitting in on a Lit.Hum. class is something I know people have done before.

YES! I didn't personally visit a class/have a lunch visit.. but I did visit over the summer. It was incredible, it helped me piece together a better idea of what it would be like going to Columbia (and that was over the summer-when classes weren't even in session). It was definitely a smart decision to visit. So, I can only imagine it being better if you were to visit a class/have a lunch visit.

I would contact the admissions office about a month or so before hand. Give them details about the course you plan to take.. and specifically ask about class sit-ins. At the very least, they will definitely let you know who to get in touch with if you want to meet professors in a specific dept.
