Visits

I heard somewhere that ivy league schools don't care if you visit them or not, unlike other schools that want to see applicants that are interested. Does Columbia follow the ivy trend?

I think that at Columbia they really do want to see interest. That's what I've heard.

Thanks karen61990
Do you get to sign in anywhere to prove that you visited their campus and attended their info session.

When I went in for the information session, I had to fill out a registration card that put me on the mailing list.

On the application itself, there's also a question about what sparked your interest in Columbia, and you can check off a whole bunch of things including campus visits.

Showing up and taking a tour isn't how Columbia tells if you're interested. They look for interest based on your application (particularly the "Why Columbia" essay). Your ability to visit a school is largely a means of how rich your parents are, unless you're local.

Yeah when you wait for the info session they have you fill out a card with all your info. I know that at Harvard they dont make you fill one out so I take that difference as a first indication that expressing interest matters.

No, they want to send you an application and make sure you apply and send in your $75 application fee so they can pay their salaries and increase their selectivity.

Or based on Columbia2002's response I am mistaken. He would know a lot more about this than I would.

haha I keep posting my responses at the same time as yours so I cant really see what you wrote. I hope that doesn't happen this time.

I guess they will not give you a card if you have already applied. So no information card to fill out to show that you were present.
