classical monologue

My daughter needs a 1 to 2 minute monologue for an upcoming college audition for their mt program . It can be either comic or drama but it must be from a play written BEFORE 1700. She is primarily a singer and has limited acting experience .Any suggestions???

try the Greeks or Restoration Comedies

My son also had limited acting experience. He asked a local actor/director for some suggestions, as well has his HS theater teacher. He ended up with a comedy monologue from Moliere, which was very well received. We found that monologue books were not very helpful.

There is a list of suggested classical monologues on the Boston University Theatre site at http://www.bu.edu/cfa/theatre/theatre_admissions/bfa.htm actually they are all Shakespeare so maybe not the direction you want to go, but it might be a start. I agree with searchingmt that Moliere is very readable, easy to understand, and quite funny. Also a good choice!
