Clemson - Accepted OOS

@RelocatedYankee Off course I defer to @baxter126 on all things Clemson, but I was just looking into this yesterday. If you look at their housing pages you will see a list of all dorms including a designation of which ones Freshman can live in. It also lists the prices for each dorm depending on room type (i.e. double, triple suite etc.)

The Core dorm where Honors is housed is only about 2 years old and is only about 1000 yards or so from Death Valley so rooms on the correct side would have a killer view into death valley. It also has a dining hall and the honors classrooms and study rooms. Core is one of the more expensive dorms. The Shoe boxes across the streetf rom core (so named because they resemble shoe boxes in there shape) are about $5000 per year cheaper. I believe the dorm that used to house Honors (McCune I believe) is a nice dorm and is a bit cheaper than Core but a bit higher than Shoe Boxes. If I recall from Baxter’s previous posts his DD lives/lived there.

The bottom line is just noodle around on the website as it contains tons of information, photos, floorplans etc. In fact as posted above yesterday I learned that all the washers and dryers in the dorms are “free” or as Baxter said “included”.

Anxiously awaiting Honor decision as when I mentioned to my DD that other dorms are cheaper than Core she said Core was the best thing about Clemson. I said what about the FB team and she acknowledged that is pretty dam good as well.

@Baxter126 please correct anything I got wrong or additional information you have for @RelocatedYankee

Can someone please let me know what happens when housing opens? I know my dd’s spot in line was dependent on the date she applied but what else needs to be done if she hasn’t committed yet?

@burghdad You got it! The website is full of information, just look all around and check it all out. I learned a lot there. There is nothing pressing to do tomorrow. The housing portal opens, but nothing you do tomorrow will affect your actually housing selection. What you can do is check out all the options for housing, fill out the student profile see the meal plans and costs (all freshman have unlimited). The dorms vary greatly in price, some are traditional dorm style, some suite-style and then there are all the living learning communities housed in various dorms. I’m happy to share anything I know about specific dorms. My son lives in Core C. There may be some previous threads on this or a new one could be started.

Here is the link to the general housing information and process.

@ny1517 Nothing needs to be done if your student hasn’t committed and she won’t miss out on anything. Her time slot is tied to her application submission, as you said.

@RelocatedYankee check out all the options and I’ll try to offer any info I can.

@Baxter126 @burghdad What are your thought on Douthit Hills?

@ny1517 my son is contemplating joining CUBS (Living-Learning Community for first year business students) and housing told me yesterday they will now be living in the Douthit Hills East units.

@mweb136 we went for a campus visit & Doutht looked really nice, was curious what’s people thought about it’s location…it was a rainy day so we did a lot of viewing out of the car window.

@ny1517 for a freshman I would rather her be in the dorms on West Campus. Core if she is lucky enough to get into honors or Mcabe/Holmes or Shoeboxes. Seems like they are all more in the heart of things.

@burghdad we wanted the west side too. This CUBS moving to the east side is really throwing us. If he gets accepted into Calhoun then Core it is.

@burghdad thank you, your info was very helpful

@mweb136 If no Honors then she may try to get into CASH which is in Holmes.

@burghdad if my son does not get into honors he may look into CUBS.

@Baxter126 what are the disadvantages of living on the east side of campus

@ny1517 I’m going to put this answer on the Freshman housing thread.

Ok
