We were hoping and waiting. Today the letter came For DS3. He was provisionally accepted for Fall 2016! He’s top 10% with a 1400 SAT score. His older brother already attends but, DS3 never had a chance to tell them. Going to plan a visit asap!
DS Received one as well. We have been to campus once but may not be able to get there with school in session until next spring. Is there a particular event (football Saturday, spring blitz, etc) that you would recommend?
We’re going to the May 16th Discover Clemson event. Older brother went to a big event too but, I don’t remember which one. The visit made the difference for DS2.
DS will still have two weeks of school left at 5/16 so it is a difficult time to be away. He will have papers, projects and exams looming so he won’t be able to accept that invitation. Enjoy your visit!
My daughter got the same provisional acceptance for the fall of 2016. 1520 SAT and top 10 percent. We are going to wait and see what happens with scholarships before visiting. We are out of state and price is a big factor in the decision. I found an old scholarship calculator and came up with 15,000 per year but do not know if that is still accurate.
Clemson’s scholarship calculator seems to be spot on.
@Dallas14 That sounds about right. For reference our OOS DS2 received 10K per year in merit scholarships with a 33 ACT and a rough top 10% estimate. (Our school doesn’t officially rank but, they do include a school profile.) He received the award letter with his acceptance letter.
My son also received a provisional acceptance to Clemson. Discover Clemson Day moved Clemson up on his short list.
How long after you sent your ACT score were you offered provisional acceptance? I sent my 35 ACT score with the April testing but have not heard anything yet.
Sent December test scores. Letter was dated April 14th.
Our scores were sent directly at the time of testing as Clemson was selected as one of his choices at test time. I think he took the test in February . We received the letter in April . Are you instate or out of state? When we attended Discover Clemson day in May , we were told that they only send out a limited number per year. I’m not sure what their criteria is. She did say to send in an application in August . Good luck.
Our son had a similar time frame. He sent in December scores and received the provisional acceptance letter in April.
He enjoyed the Discover Clemson visit too. When he mentioned his letter, the Clemson rep was very complimentary and spent quite a bit of time with him talking over all Clemson has to offer. He had a prompt response to his thank you email that showed the rep remembered their conversation. Overall, a very positive impression.
PokeyJoe,
What other schools have you visited? Are you from SC?
@carolinamom2boys We are OOS. DS3 is looking for a 5 year Masters program for accounting. (His older brother is a ME major at Clemson.)
We’ve visited several schools. Wake Forest, Indiana University, University of Texas, SMU, and Clemson. We are focusing on the career services programs each school offers and which firms recruit off each campus.
It’s hard to go wrong for accounting so, we’d like a school with a great culture fit as well.
They are taking applications for fall 2016 already?
No, not until 8/1. The provisional acceptance appears to have been triggered by sending test score and possibly by demonstrating interest.
@Cheeringsection, thank you! It seems unusual to send transcripts and scores prior to an application, but it worked for PokeyJoe - congrats.
Thanks!
I think they must look at the additional information that was filled out when he registered for his SAT. Also, our guidance counselor strongly encourages the students to be done testing by the end of junior year. Because of this, most of the students send their scores before their applications.
Transcripts go out late in the summer or early fall. The kids are advised to be done with applications, if at all possible, by October.
