my d has been accepted to the nursing program for clemson and i was wondering if any current or past students can tell me pro/cons of the program, size of the program, how are the clinicals????

^I can’t really speak about the program specifically but I do know that they only admit about 40 nursing students a year (plus about 35 people total who are allowed to switch majors) so the program isn’t that big.

I’m wondering the same thing… does anyone know if nursing is a strong point for them?

from the nursing website:

“Our undergraduate program maintains a 100 percent job placement rate, and graduates consistently exceed state and national pass rates for licensure exams. For undergraduates, the Clemson campus offers all the advantages of a great university and the opportunity to be involved with students from many majors. Our Clinical Learning and Research Center is one of the finest in the country and allows students to practice events that happen infrequently in the clinical setting and require quick accurate responses for the best outcomes. Our research with human patient simulators will improve preparation for increasingly complex patient care.”

My daughter is interested in nursing and has also applied, but hasn’t heard yet. Would Coll2011 and LizMarieF please share their daughters’ stats? Also, when did you hear? After reading Pierre’s post about how few students are in the program, I emailed the school and the response was as follows: She didn’t say how many were accepted as freshmen; however, she stated that if a student is admitted to Clemson for their 2nd choice major, they would apply to nursing school in January of their sophomore year. 35 spots - typically 60-80 applicants - no guaranties. If they are accepted, it will take at least another semester to graduate. Clemson is my daughter’s first choice but she definitely wants to be a nurse - so we’ll see…

Oh yeah it’s definitely possible to switch into nursing, it’s just not guaranteed and personally if I had a choice between two schools, I would go with the one that guaranteed me admission into the nursing program.

My D has a 3.9 UW and 4.5 W GPA almost all honors classes and AP Course. ACT 32 and SAT 720CR 660 M 800 WR. SATII 680, 750 & 770. 22Her class rank is 6 out of 284. She also addressed in her application that in addition to her EC’s she did quite a bit of shadowing this past summer. Hope this helps.

When I visited, the admission guy said that engineering and nursing were BY FAR the hardest majors to get into. He repeated this over and over again. So I think that this program must be pretty great, because it is very competitive.

Thanks Coll2011 - Your daughter’s stats are higher than my daughter’s. I agree with you, Pierre, best to get into a school that accepts a student directly into the nursing progam.
Good luck to all!

My daughter is debating Clemson Nursing - if you are currently a nursing student there - what brought you to this program, If you are debating nursing at Clemson - what makes it stand out to you?
So my friend’s uncle used to be the dean of admissions and the dean of the college of nursing at Clemson. I know the college of nursing here is really competitive and I was wondering if knowing someone like that could increase my chances of getting accepted. Right now, I haven’t gotten my SAT or ACT scores back, but I have about a 95% or 4.0 GPA and my class rank is 133/600.
