Clemson or Pitt?

I've finally narrowed my decision between Clemson and Pitt and can't seem to reach the answer. I'm an English major from New Jersey, and have visited both and love both campuses.

at Clemson, I love everything, especially the sports and school spirit, but I wish the town was a little livelier or just bigger.

at Pitt, I like how it is only 6 hrs away from home instead of 12, and I know the career opportunities for me to be an editor are greater here than in SC. there is also a study abroad program which sounds like it was designed for me.

I go back and forth because I love everything Clemson has to offer, especially because I only get these four years to really pick somewhere different to study, but I feel Pitt is the better place for my career. HELP!

What is the cost differential between the two schools?

Is weather a factor?

There’s lots of school spirit at Pitt.

I’m confused about what you see Clemson has that Pitt doesn’t have.

What’s the financial situation with both schools? I’m from Boston and I personally picked Clemson over Pitt (for engineering though) I loved Pittsburgh but thought it would be nice to see what it’s like to live in a small southern town for college and it’s been an amazing experience. I thought I would miss living in a city but if you get involved here, you’ll have no trouble finding anything to do since it’s such a big school. Compared to Pitt, I’d say the people at Clemson definitely have a lot more school spirit/pride - it shows in our alumni giving rate (one of the top schools among public universities). People who graduate from Clemson really enjoy their experience here. If you want, I know some people who are English majors so I could give you their contact info for more info on the major. Not sure what you are looking for with study abroad but I know a lot of people who study abroad, they definitely make you aware of opportunities here and encourage you to go abroad if you want to.

Let me know if you have any other questions about Clemson!

If you feel Pitt is better for your career, that may be your answer. I mean really, that has to be one of the most important things, if not the most important.

Pitt will provide sports and spirit. Football craziness at this point is not at the same level as Death Valley because Pitt’s program is rebuilding after a couple of horrible coaching hires, but you are still talking about a major D1 football program that is also in the ACC. Basketball is significantly better at Pitt, so during the winter, school spirit at Pitt trumps Clemson. Plus, you’ll get the bonus of crazy sports spirit from the city’s professional franchises, particularly Steelers and Penguins.

As far as having some place different to study, try studying in the [Cathedral of Learning](Cathedral of Learning - Wikipedia), or taking your work over to [Schenley Plaza](Schenley Plaza - Wikipedia) or [Schenley Park](Schenley Park - Wikipedia). If you want a more rural, warmer, southern experience, well, Pitt can’t provide that. So you’ll have to decide how important that is.

thank you so much! this has been so helpful. Pitt and Clemson have come out to around the same price, only a few thousand dollars differential.

I would love to have the contact info for English majors at Clemson, thank you!

For English major it doesn’t really matter. Choose the cheaper one (and closer to home) so that you can keep your both tuition and transportation cost low even if there is only a few thousand dollars difference.
