I am in in state student who can't make up my mind between Clemson and Wofford. I will probably go pre-law or pre-buiseness. Is either school more prestigious than the other? Any input would be helpful.

clemson is probably more well known

definitely go to Clemson for business. As for pre-law, I’m guessing Clemson is probably cheaper than Wofford? Save the money for law school haha

Right now I am an english major and I am not so sure about the english department at Clemson being that its more of an ag/engineering school. Does anything know about that? I know that Wofford is strong in that area being a liberal-arts school, but I don’t know how much I want to go there right now.

Do you want to do something with your english major? If not, I don’t see why it would matter if you are going to law school anyways.

thats a solid point, I really like different aspects of both schools which is why this process has taken me so long. I like Clemson’s atmosphere a lot though

Cgaines; I have been in the same place! I was between Auburn and Wofford, so not exactly Clemson, but close enough to compare. I thought I wanted a big school… I loved the “big game” atmosphere so much, I auditioned for the mascot slot at Auburn, and GOT IT. There is an atmosphere that comes with a big school… But have you been to a game at Wofford? Or have you spent much time around campus? Games are awesome because we dress up and our student tail gate that is just as enjoyable for me.*

Wofford was my last choice when I went into deciding about schools. And now I am a Junior and I wouldn’t want to be any where else! I didn’t have that “ah ha” moment either. I really encourage you to look at where you want to be for your time at a school. More than just a city or a classroom, but where do you want to actually be a part of? I took a very economic approach to it… Cost versus benefit. Where did I want to invest time, money, and resources? And what is that place gonna expect of me? Do they know me well enough as an investor? That was meaningful to me. Wofford has a really unique environment, it is different, but I love it.

But it sounds like reputation is important for you. Wofford, I would argue, personally, is just as well known. Just because Clemson is is known for their sports, does not mean it is going to have a better reputation when you get in a board room or court room. I have taken business and law classes at Wofford, and the connections you make are priceless! You are going to have access to great resources at BOTH schools, but Wofford’s small family atmosphere in the classroom is going to set you apart! I am in a business law class right now, and the professor is an attorney and currently a Bankruptcy Trustee. He is an awesome resource, whether you choose to go business or law, he is the man to talk to! He is the pre-law advisor, but he also works with business students on a regular basis. His name is John Fort and his email is; fortjk@wofford.edu . He would be happy to tell you straight up what he thinks. Maybe Clemson is a better choice for you? He is honest and will tell you. If you wanted, I could get him to give you a call? He is the kinda guy that gives all of his students his home, cell, office, second office phone numbers.

Our Center for Professional Excellence is probably one of the strongest services you could ask for! The connections you have access to really make a world of difference. My finance professor was the former CFO for Denny’s, my mentor is a trustee at Bank of America and countless colleges, and another close family friend graduated from Wofford and served as a Justice on the South Carolina Supreme Court. These are just a few of the people that I have met through Wofford. They love to help, and you won’t have huge classes… That was valuable for me.

I decided that the community of Wofford was worth something to me, more than the big school. But that’s what suits me… You have to ask yourself the tough questions. Spend time on campus and talk to professors. You can contact people and see how they treat you, that made a huge impact on me!

Hope that helps! Let me know if I can help or connect you to any other resources. Sorry to write a small novel… Just personal experience talking!
