Clemson University

Hi I’m currently a junior in New Jersey. I plan on applying to Clemson as a biology major and want to know my chances of getting in. Now just a little background… I struggled a bit my first two years because I challenged myself too much. But luckily I’ve been on an upward trend ever since then.

SAT: 1800
GPA: probably around a 3.0 unweighted :frowning:
EC: 3 year varsity track, jobs, clubs, community service, American legion boys state, peer leadership
AP/Honors: honors English 3 years, honors geometry and algebra 2, ap us, ap euro, ap biology; next year: ap environmental, honors calc, English 101 102
I am also working at a biochemical research center if that helps.
My chances are probably slim, but is there a chance with strong recommendations?

Your SAT is about the average for the middle 50% at Clemson. However, to be safe, you may want to raise it to an 1830-1850, just to be safe. In addition, you never said your weighted average? Either way, your EC’s are good. I don’t know how much recommendations effect admissions decisions, but GPA and test scores take priority.

This is a tough one. If your essays are stellar, and the recommendations are good, I say you should get in though.

You should check the “Clemson wait list” postings here as another reference point. This year seemed to be one with a spike in the number of applicants, and as a result, the acceptances were at higher standards. Clemson seems to focus nearly exclusively on GPA, top 10 percent class rank, and SAT/ACT, at least in the first round. They do superscore. Applying early helps too. Best of luck to you! It sounds like you are on a good path!
