I am nearing the end of my college search. I have been accepted to CU-Boulder, Clemson, University of Denver, and Villanova. I have ruled out DU and Nova because I think they are overpriced. My choices are Clemson and Boulder. I am going back and forth in between business and engineering. I am accepted in Clemsons engineering school and Boulders business school.

Clemson was my favorite school that I visited, but I applied late in the cycle and did not get any scholarship money. CU-Boulder would mean instate tuition, but the campus wasn't as nice to me. I guess living in Colorado most of your life makes it seem boring. Also, the large class sizes have made me unsure.

I live about five minutes from Clemson, and my experience with it is that it is very Christian, Republican, fratty, athetlic and loud. Depending on your taste those all could be very good things or bad things. But there isn't anything to do outside of the campus really. It's rather boring. There are several small southern towns surrounding it. The closest medium sized town is Greenville (about 45 mins) which has around 50-70,000 people. Then of course Charlotte and Atlanta are both about 2.5-3 hours away. Charleston is 4 hours, Columbia 2, and Myrtle beach is 4.5.
It is a big school with LOTS of partying. Students can be easily distracted by all of the alcohol that's on campus. You'll get a ton of southern bells and beaus with rich parents and wholesome values.
There is deffinitely an intellectual scene as well. School spirit is a huge part of the environment. On weekends with football games, it's almost impossible to drive through Anderson or Clemson. Homecoming weekend is huge. People come from all over the state to view the floats. All of the students are pretty happy, as well. I personally would never go there, because I have lived beside it my entire life, and I am a liberal, but for someone else it may be perfect.

i love clemson! i'm from the south (obviously, look at my username). the person above me pretty much summed it all up. clemson is a party school, has a nice campus, and is very big on sports (what can you expect though, it's in the south.) it might or might not be the right school for you. if money is a major concern, then i would recommend staying in state, instead of going to clemson. but if it's not, go to CLEMSON!

Know nothing about Clemson, but have been to Boulder. Beautiful campus.. good school. One thing though.. it ain't cheap either. One of the highest tuitions I've seen for out of state public schools

DS is a Clemson Comp Engineering student. Loves Clemson. Lots of work which would probably be true no matter where one studies engineering. I know nothing about the Clemson business program - though I think it's well thought of. Since you are unsure of your major, you would want to be sure both schools offer decent business & engineering programs.
You also need to consider fit - sounds like you felt more fit at Clemson than CU Boulder.
One negative for Clemson is that it's not so easy to travel to/from. You can fly in & out of Greenville, but that's pretty expensive. More affordable options are available into & out of Atlanta, which is a 2 hour drive from Clemson. There is a shuttle bus, but DS usually hitches a ride with a fellow student. It's something to consider.
Good luck with your choice.

PS - I have a jr D who is considering CU Boulder for fall of 2008. If she decides to pursue Engineering, it will likely be high on her list. I agree with the above poster, though, for OS students, it's majorly expensive!
