Clinical Research Internships

Hey guys, I am a rising junior this year and was thinking about clinical research opportunities I could do next summer to boost my application. If you know of any opportunities in Washington-Baltimore area could you please put out some info?

Look at websites at colleges and universities within communting distances and see if they have any outreach/internship programs for high school students. Also look at the NIH in Bethesda. Pay close attention to age requirements.

Have you ever volunteered at NIH? The program requires students to be 17 by June 15, but I will be by June 18. Will it be a problem considering the small difference?

I believe the NIH opps are competitive. If you want an internship and seem not to qualify, you need to contact them and ask. There may also be some chance at local hospitals. But you do need to be at least minimally qualified.

I believe that NIH cutoff dates for age are firm, but only the NIH can tell you if any exceptions are ever made.

The link for the HiSTEP program clearly states that there are NO exceptions to the age requirement for that particular program https://www.training.nih.gov/histep_20_home_page . The positions are competetive, so there is no need to make exceptions, and there are likely policies/liability issues which are also driving the age requirements.
