I know there are lots of posts on this, but...

What kind of stuff did you guys do for your less than 5 minute music sample? As the deadline for apps approaches, I'm starting to freak out.

I'm just not sure what direction to take my app, specifically the essays, in. Oi. Any guidance?

ok i responded to ur PM but since they recently updated the essays...for the desert island one i'd say be creative they want to get a pretty well rounded class...that doesnt mean you have to find some obscure african singer and claim him as the messiah but i wouldn't go saying something like, i'd bring butterfly by mariah carey because she is sooo fine. we do a lot of descriptive writing...self explanatory prob, but thats where you have to describe a song both physically..lyrics music etc and how if affects u emotionally. i think they want to see how music affects u. take the 3 records u pick and ask yourself why those are the greatest records in your opinion and find concrete reasons for why they are so important. is it the production? the singing, the songwriting? the sound of the guitar? etc...does it remind you of or was it important to the civil rights movement, the gay movement, whatever, your grandparents, the world trade center. did you listen to it when you were down and it got you out of a depression? try and figure out why the records u pick matter to you and then figure out how you can convey that to someone else. try not to repeat from your statement of intent, but maybe a record inspired you and now you never leave home without it?
be honest but make it interesting.
the statement of intent is not too hard i don't think.

thanks man! i totally meant to ask earlier, is the program everything you hoped it would be?

also... just wondering, as a girl coming from a background of being the only girl in almost all music related situations...

are there a lot of girls in the program?
