Hello to all!

I have an audition at loyola in 6 days, and I don't know quite what to expect. I was going to use a song from "street scene" because it's technically considered an aria, but I'm not sure if they woudl allow it. So, I'm going back and forth between songs (some that I barely know) and other songs that may not be completely contrasting to the one that is the definite one.

besides that, I am wondering: Has anyone from CC auditioned there this year? Is it a real hard school of music to get into? (And yes, I DO know most schools of music are no easy ins, but some are less competitive than others. Just so that people don't think I'm naive lol.) What was your experience like? Friendly people?

My future son-in-law was a music major (BA) at Loyola and loved his experience. He is a jazz pianist and is about to graduate from medical school. He has kept performing, including gigs on cruise ships. From what he says, you would have a great college and music experience (if you get in) without the price tag of Tulane.

Alrighty everyone,

I just completed my Loyola audition on Saturday andi t went well I think. I mean, yes, I did get nervous like always but I think I felt a very positive vibe (hoping!) The faculty were so so so nice, and kind of eccentric (in a good way :P,) and the students were all southern and sweet. So, we shall see. Program and campus look good :)

I got into their music school today :D :D :D :D :D :D

Jeremy,
That's fantastic! So happy for you!! :)

Congratulations! You're a singer right? Loyola has an excellent voice program with a long history. I think it and the university would be a good fit for you, based on your prior posts. My neighbor's D just graduated from Loyola in December in music business (with violin as her instrument) and she got married over Christmas to a boy who was also a music major there. Both kids had a great time, lots of outside gigs in nola to earn money. Great music scene in that town, and Loyola really tries to plug you into the local music culture. In fact, if you have any interest in the music business type work (rather than straight vocal performance) you should talk to them about that.

As for performance, I know Loyola has done well recently with stuff like the MET auditions. You will get good training there. I know you've also applied to U Miami, and their music school is amazing, but if you weren't happy at Tulane, I honestly doubt you'd like Miami. If I were you, I'd take Loyola. Good luck!

Thanks you guys!! I'm happy about it but MIami is my first choice (Loyola being my 1st and a half...I can't say 2nd because I like it too much lol.)
But yes, if I don't get into Miami I will NOT be disappointed :P.
Mercymom, why do you say I may not b e happy at Miami? I mean I got used to the partying and such at Tulane so I'm not sure if it'd botherf me but I get what you mean I think lol.

Congratulations Jeremy! Doesn't Loyola have the Herbie Hancock school of Jazz? Seems like a great place. Good luck with Miami though!

Congratulations, Jeremy!!!

I went to Tulane, and my H went to Miami. Miami is the Tulane of Florida. Tulane is the Miami of Lousiana. Miami does, however, have a far superior music program, esplly as Tulane does not have an actual music school. So for music Miami really outshines Tulane in every way, but the overall culture is basically the same.

Congrats, Jeremy. My son is a junior music industries major at Loyola and the drummer in the jazz ensemble. Last year, they won the competition at the North Texas Jazz Festival at UNT.

Loyola is now the home of the Thelonious Monk Institute of Jazz Performance
with artistic director, Terence Blanchard. Good stuff!
