Closing for snow?

As a Southerner, I am used to schools closing for just a little snow or ice (more likely than snow some years). Our schools I are closed today and probably will be tomorrow after some sleet and freezing rain. I know Cincinnati gets more snow than we do here in NC, but is closing for 3 days typical for U of Cincinnati or was this snow storm worse than usual? Also, does the food service close when the university closes? I worry about my D eating if the food service is closed. May need to make sure she has a stockpile of Ramen noodles next year in case the university closes for several days.

Main Food Service centers are open and have been each day of the closings. I’ve been following them for over two years, and they have down days (winter closings) each year. It’s due to the fact that many students are commuters. The students on campus would have little issue getting to class. This is unusual in the number of days that it’s been closed. Today it looks like wind chill is causing the shutdown. When they finally do open, they’ll have the same amount of class material to cover in less time, so they’re going to get slammed on the back end when they return to class. The teachers have been in contact with their students, and are assigning readings and homework, however.

Going back to the late 70s, early 80s, when I was at UC, I don’t recall that many closings – maybe a day or two here or there. So I am guessing these series of snowstorms have been worse than usual. Up where I live now, in the northeast, they certainly are. I do have vivid memories of trying to drive to my co-op job (out in Milford), during snowstorms, with all those hills around Cincinnati.

Bigger problem – going stir-crazy in the dorms, when there are no classes!

Regarding Stir-crazy. I just spoke to my daughter who told me she was talking to me from the fort she just built in her bunk bed…

monday was a true snow day. tuesday, weds and today they were supposed to open up at 11am but because of road conditions for the commuters and horrible wind chill today they decided to close instead of open late. my daughter has been using the time to work on her upcoming projects for DAAP

they just posted on their website that they will not be opening on friday until 10am
