Okay, since the 2nd grade I have been at schools that all have uniforms.
But I may be going to a non-uniform school this autumn (since the uniform is being designed and made).
What do you wear to school if you go to a school with no uniform?
They said anything but crop tops, high heels, torn clothes, short shorts/skirts and halterneck tops are okay. I'm just wondering how formal/casual I should dress. It is a school with wealthy students.

What do you wear when you go out? I buy some Polo Ralph Lauren Tees/Hoodies and some Jeans/Athletic Shorts/Khaki Shorts, and that’s what I wear all year round.

Anything that makes you comfortable. Don’t care about what others think. Just dress normal, and not all slang-ish.

Are you a guy or a girl?

Assuming that you’re a chick, just buy some cute/comfortable stuff for the first few days. Everyone overdresses freshman year. Once sophomore year hits, no one cares anymore and everyone just wears jean shorts/tank top or sweats.

Wow, no high heels, short shorts, and short skirts? Not only would the spring clothing of most of the female students be out of line with respect to the last two precepts, the first would end formal dress for presentations for half the student body.

Anyway, just wear normal things. It’s not a big deal. You probably don’t wear your uniform on the weekend, right? So just wear those clothes.

Eg: today, I wore a white cami with a purple striped polo over it, a wide, gold-accented waist belt, and a tan tulip skirt of very modest length. With 4 inch heels. This was an outfit on the low side of my formal-for-school wear though, and was much more than what most girls wear. Shorts and t-shirts are very popular choices this time of year.

All schools say no “short shorts/skirts”. But no one really listens.

Sundresses ftw.

^Those are always cute.

Just get some nice shorts, cute camis/tank tops, comfy t-shirts, jackets/hoodies, and you’ll be set.

I like to wear nice jeans/corduroys/khakis usually in the Fall/Winter, and then in the Spring/Summer I wear really nice chino shorts, always above the knee. I like pairing those with a lot of nice button down shirts. cardigans, sweaters, the college hoody, nicely fitting t shirts, or an occasional polo (I really don’t like them). Schools without uniforms can be as casual or as formal as you choose to make them. Come up with your own style of what you like and just go with it. I go to school with kids who regularly wear ties and jackets to kids that look like they are still in pajamas, you do what you like best.

My school has really wealthy students (even though it’s a public school)…some kids drive really expensive cars/have a golf course in their BACKYARD (my school is really split w/ not a large middle class).

Find your style (“gangster,” “goth,” “peppy,” the “I don’t care” style, etc.)…and go with it.

I usually just go for comfy clothes (simple t-shirt w/ little design, jeans, converse), but sometimes go Forever 21 style (yes that is a “style” at my school…although it really isn’t)

Just noticed this. At least around here, most people I know who go to schools which are nearly uniformly composed of wealthy students dress quite a bit more casually than well-off kids do in more economically diverse HS. Whereas most of the girls here who can afford something nice would not be caught dead in sweats, most of our friends at private or suburban schools wear them frequently. It’s all about tacit communication of status; we feel the need to say that we can afford to dress nicely whereas they already communicate their socio-economic status by simply being at the school.

I’m a freshman…I don’t overdress :b haha

We have the “your skirt/shorts must be longer than the length of your fingertips”

I got told today that my shorts were much too short for school…? They were soccer shorts only 5 inches above my knee! What if I just have long legs and short arms!?

^ Now that you point it out I really do see it. Most of the kids at my school are always in sweats and I never understood why some other schools are always so “well” dressed.

Wear what you like. Don’t show up to school in heels or party attire, obviously. But at most schools the tastes of students are pretty diverse and varying.

I like to dress nicely, so I always carefully deliberate over my outfit the night before and I absolutely REFUSE to come to school in jeans and a t-shirt or sweatshirt. But I know plenty of people who just show up in sweats and a shirt. I could never do that, but to each their own.

@ leila: I don’t see what’s so wrong with jeans, tshirt, pearl necklace, & flats. I only wear that once every couple of weeks…but still.

^ There’s nothing wrong with that. I’ve worn similar outfits all the time.

I’m talking about an oversized t-shirt (the kind you’d wear to sleep) with baggy jeans and sneakers. Something of the sort. That’s not my cup of tea.

Whatever is “school appropriate” and makes you feel comfortable. 10 years down the line, no one will give a damn about what you wore one day regardless.

If I wanted to, I could dress in suits everyday, but that would make me be different from every student. My school is in a “Economically diverse”(urban/.metro area, poor homes) area.

Sounds just like what I wear.

I also agree with the whole thing about wealthy kids at diverse schools dress better than wealthy kids at wealthy schools. I never thought about it, but I do tend to dress like I have something to prove.

In my school only the sixth formers get to wear casual clothes and this is what the girls wear - I’m too bored to notice what the guys wear. During summer most of them wear tanks/t-shirts with short jean shorts. During winter it’s usually jeans + tshirt + jacket + scarf combo. Most live in shorts and soem wear skirts and summer dresses. It’s really casual but no-one dresses in sweats. I’m a little more conservative so I usually wear jeans year-round with a non-skin tight shirt (I’m a girl) and some flats. Haha I’m the first to admit I have a pretty bad sense of style so don’t go by me.

^ Same school. I’m in T-shirts and shorts from around now until October/November-ish, then I wear the same with a hoodie on top. And jeans, obviously.
