I'm from Florida and I am not used to cold weather at all. I've never even seen snow. I'm wondering what kind of clothes I should buy for the winters in Philadelphia, and where I can get them. Any suggestions?

It will be relatively warm when you arrive. It might be best to buy your winter clothes after you arrive. A warm pair of waterproof boots and a winter jacket will be in order. If you are like my kid, you’ll just wear hoodies a lot (even under that winter jacket).

North Face. Different layers.

I would buy winter clothing after you get to Philly. Weatherproof jackets would help, and make sure not to go around with just swimming suits on. :p

What? people at penn just walk around naked all day…

Thick sweatpants are helpful… otherwise, consider getting some sweaters, hoodies, long sleeve shirts, etc. Most helpful is the winter coat, of course. A few years back I bought myself these sweet ear muffs called 1080s… they are like $35.00 at Macy’s around here, they keep your ears warm even when it gets down to 10° out, and they fold up to fit in your pocket without taking up much room at ALL.

I have one of those Northface winter jackets that can combine with a Northface fleece. Together they are an unstoppable force and I’ve never felt cold outside (and I live down south).

After freshman year my son requested a wool overcoat- a dressier item of clothing than he normally used as outerwear. He had an off-campus job at a law firm, and wanted to look somewhat professional, and the thing was WARM. I wouldn’t bother with one freshman year, though.
