I’m a fairly accomplished athlete in a sport only offered at the club level in college. I have a highlight video I could send, but I don’t know how appreciable it would be or how I would go about sending it. Any thoughts?
Admissions won’t want to see your sports video. They don’t know how to evaluate it like a coach would.
Agreed. I suppose if you do get in, then you could get in touch with the coaches and try to form a relationship with them. But I wouldn’t go further than that.
If at the club level, there may not even be more than a student coach, or it could be a pretty organized program with a non-student coach and travel schedule, etc., depending on the school and budget. I would think there is information on the website about some kind of contact person for each sport, and if there are tryouts or it is a non-cut sport. You should be able to email someone and ask about joining the team. If no contact is listed, call or email the athletic department of the school and ask who you should reach out to. You should only be sending a video if you have someone that wants to see it. Another approach is if there is a list of players on the club team, perhaps reach out to one of them (the captain perhaps if still at the school or other team member) through facebook, etc.
If it comes time to send video, upload it to one of the many online sites (you can do privately versus a big public you tube video thing) and provide link to whoever you are sending it to.
It is an EC as far as the college is concerned. Certainly list your accomplishments, leadership, and awards in the sport, but the value for admissions is the same as other ECs.
@cadreamin The OP is wondering if his films/accomplishments will be used in his application evaluation. The club sport coach/sponsor has no pull whatsoever w/admissions.
@t26e4, oops, I thought he was trying to figure out if he could use it to get on a team since some club teams are try out based, didn’t realize OP wanted to use if for admissions. Thanks for clarifying.
@CADREAMIN Hmmmm… re-reading the original post-- I think it’s not clear the OP’s intent. Anyways, we got 'im covered! hahah
