Can anyone give me any insight into this...like how competitive the teams are, how time consuming it is, etc? I looked it up on the website, but personal opinions would be greatly appreciated (esp. if anyone knows about the club soccer deal...). Thanks!

I'm pretty much sure that most club sports are only as competitive as you want it to be. You contribute how much time you want to contribute, etc. As for soccer, no idea...

okay, well i know they aren't as time-consuming as varsity sports by any means, but the club soccer team finished 8th at the nat'l championships in FL last year, so i wasnt sure....of course, i have no idea how good the competition is either. Thanks for the insight though.

anyone??? or if anyone knows someone playing club soccer and could ask them, that would be mucho appreciado! Thanks again!

I am interested in Club/Intramural sports too. If anyone has any knowledge about them at U-M I'd be glad to hear it!

My son was interested in trying out for club soccer but heard that about 80 kids tried out for 1 or 2 spots so he decided against it. My daughter's friend was on the women's club soccer team a few years ago (from 2002-2006). It was competitive and a big time commitment, with out of town travel, practice everyday during the season, training before the semester began, etc., but she loved it. The training in the winter was much less intense. Same with the boys club team. Don't know too much else about it.

ahh, thanks deebvee. any idea how competitive the girls tryouts were? thanks for the input once again :)

vc08-I don't know about the girls tryouts.

deebvee,

Did your son end up playing intramural soccer?

Neurotic-yup..he played on 2 IM teams; 1 co-ed, 1 all guys. And he hooked up with an indoor team (not a UofM team) but with a lot of UofM kids on it. They play at some indoor center in AA...called Wide World or something like that. He said the level of soccer on that team, and in that league, is much higher than on any of the IM teams he saw, and he's loving it. FYI-he also played IM tennis and plays IM basketball. No shortage of opportunities to be involved in sports at UofM!

yeah, just to add to that, my brother plays IM soccer at Cal (obviously a different school, but similar size/atmosphere), and he has mentioned several times that the level is similar to high school varsity, maybe even a little higher. They bring in official refs and everything.

Great info - thanks!
