Intramural sports (especially girls)

I would love to hear about any experiences with intramural sports. My D will probably want to play soccer and/or basketball. What was the skill level? Was it a good way to meet additional people? Etc.

I did IM soccer through my dorm. You can do with friends too, but you have to come up with your own team then. It was lots of fun and pretty laid back. Some teams are amazing..and others not so much. Its not super competitive or anything (I guess it can be if you make though) and its not a big time commitment.

i was actually quite disappointed with most IM sports I played, especially football. The season was very short, and skill levels usually varied alot, so most games were blowouts either way. I do recommend minisoccer, innertube waterpolo, and softball for girls.

Just because of demand for facilities and making sure things don't conflict with class, IM sports can sometimes be at odd hours. Pretty much every sport has three regular season games. Teams with an above .500 record go to the A playoffs, other teams go to B playoffs, and then it's single elimination.

Things fill up fast...my team couldn't get in to softball because our guy who was gonna sign us up couldn't wait in line for three hours, and by the time someone else got there we were waitlisted. I was upset about that.

We did get in to flag football. That's the stuff of glory. Second what magou said about blowouts. I had a pretty good team, we just winged the entire thing, kind of a run around, catch the ball and score. The first game we played we lost by a touchdown because we had no idea what the rules were (the rules suck). The second game we won 38-0. Absolute blowout. After the first possession the other team had no success moving the ball. I think I had 2 catches for TDs and an interception for TD. Another game was a rainout. So because of our outstanding 1-1 season, we made the A playoffs for the Rec B level.

We got smoked in the playoffs. I was pretty upset by how this ran. The team we played had no business being in the "Rec B" level. These guys were all at least 6 feet and they were running set plays - they all had a wrist coach. They scored almost every possession, we didn't move the ball more than 40 yards in a drive the entire game (ok, I blame our QB for this.) It was not fun - IM sports should definitely exercise a little more control over which league a team is in. It had to have been obvious how good this team was early on in the season - IM should move teams like this up to the A league.

But this year, we are gonna be ready. We're starting voluntary practices welcome week (likely just throwing the football around while drinking.) After that the good stuff. We're gonna be bringing our A game, so watch out.

Like the posts above, skill levels in IM sports are not really regulated. You will often see really good teams playing a B-leagues. It kinda sucks.

and Especially in flag football, the refs are terribly.
