Hey Guys,
I'm really interested in starting a club next year when I'm going to be a junior. I'd really like to hear some ideas about various clubs in people's schools, clubs you've mined or clubs you have created. I'm having trouble deciding what kind of club I would like to start. I don't want it to be an entirely interest based club that has only a small number of members and then collapses. Rather, I'd like to start a volunteering club or something that a lot of people will join and something that will actually have an effect on people at school, community, etc. I know my goals seem pretty far fetched right now since I don't have any concrete ideas but I know when people are motivated, (almost) anything is possible. Please tell me about volunteer service projects you have done in the past and how I may do the same and what ideas you have for successful clubs. It'd be amazing if I could organize major events or something to raise money for a particular cause. I've heard of people starting nonprofits and that sounds incredible as well but I really don't know how or where to start. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks so much:)

Hi, well I’m not overly involved in a lot of clubs or anything like that but since you said stuff about volunteering I figured I could help. At my school we have a Key Club chapter, I don’t know if your school does, but it’s basically just a community service club. Similar to that is a club at our school called “Astra” I think it’s basically the same thing just a different name. We also have a HOSA (Health Occupation Students of America) and I’ve heard that they do a lot of volunteering in the local hospital and such.
Now onto examples of things we’ve done:
-Habitat for humanity
-If you have any local elementary schools they often let high school clubs help with big events etc.
-Hospital/Retirement homes. (One time we were planning on dressing up as elves and handing out teddy bears to children at the hospital)
-Collecting canned goods for salvation army is always good.
-This year we collected change for United Way
-Adopt a road and clean it up.
-Also, every year we do Relay for Life which is really good for raising money for Cancer.
I hope this helps :)

Yeah it really helped! Ty! other ideas anyone?

If you don’t have an idea from the get go, starting a club is not really the way to go. Service/volunteer clubs are dandy, but most schools already have a Key Club that takes that place. Not to mention service projects within NHS/Renaissance and so forth.

Why not dedicate yourself to an existing club?

^Something tells me the OP is trying to impress colleges. No one starts a club without a concrete idea. If they have one, it isn’t as broad or as trite as volunteering.
