Clubs

This is going to be another shameless plug. I was talking with Potter about club day. All through Jr High and High School she participated in Tae Kwon Do, and Aikido/Jui Jitsu. She holds a black belt in TKD. During her doolie year she opted not to join the USAFA TKD club.

This year she is joining the TKD club. They will be participating in local tournements and training regularly. They apperently don’t have a lot of girls. You don’t have to be a Blackbelt and they will teach you. Best of all when you are really frustrated you can punch things and break boards.

That said lets hear about your club choices for 2008.

ski, paintball, model engineering (flying model airplanes).. may not do model engineering though. i might do climbing too! haha

WoG!

.

Honor Guard

I'm also going to the Airsoft meeting tomorrow, so we'll see how that works.

Ultimate frisbee, ski club, and mountaineering club.

I did mountaineering club and may still do Ultimate Frisbee, iam doin UF for intramurals which is pretty tight... :)

Salsa (forced by female acquaintance)
Power Lifting
Snowboarding woooo!

Swing, Blues, and that lesser of the dances, salsa. ;)

Twin1: swing, entertainment, TKD, Judo, and one other I can't remember.

Twin2: "This information is compartmentalized and is on a need-to-know basis." Typical.

:)

Tell Twin2 "Vwe Hav Vayz to make U Talk"....:0

Potter will have fun with 1 in TKD.

Hey, just a word out to all you four digs...There is a distinct club that wasn't at Club Day, because it's more than a club in ways. The Character and Leadership Development Team is a club that runs through the Chracter Department here at USAFA. You cannot join this club on your own, you need to be nominated by one of the upperclassmen. Each year we strive to get 25-30 new freshman to join the team, but we do not appoint until the end of the year. This gives us time as upperclassmen to evaluate your character. As the CaLD team, we go to seminars across the country including TCU, Virginia Tech, West Point, as well as at the Broadmoor. All of these trips are free and great for your leadership development. I can send out a list of what upperclassmen are involved in what squadrons, and you can talk to them if you are interested....just putting the plug out now.

Good job Groogwaugh another CC insider leg up.

Just curious is there a pistol/combat arms team. How competitive is it if there is one?

Are there any classes on Traumatic First Aid?

Any takers for the Triathlon club? You get to see my bright and shining face at 5 am and again in the afternoon every day...

Yes, we have a small arms club and team. It is getting off the ground this year (re-started last spring).

Right now, the club portion is JUST getting set-up, so the details are not firm. Expect basic instruction on rifle and pistol, and club range time.

The team is having tryouts in a few weeks. Currently, I am one of 5 team members. We are focusing on IPSC and IDPA style pistol competitions, but will be moving to 3-gun and multi-gun competitions, as well. Our current goal is to have a 12 member team. We don't have a solid interest count yet, as our informational meeting is this Thursday.

Taz, the EMT team is trained in "Traumatic first aid" if that's at all what you mean. Even though we're used for training events and such, trauma is all we're really good for handling.

Is there a cycling club? I've always wanted to get more active in cycling, but never really had the oportunity. Just wondering.

Hornet, Medical (at least here in Virginia) isn't very exciting anyways. Do you think so? Normally very depressing. Even though I might be better at medical.

Depends on what you do I suppose. Family medicine doesn't appeal to me, but neurology or surgery seems like a job I'd like. Do some research and see what peaks your interest. Something like oncology isn't for everyone, having to deal with cancer day-in and day-out.

There is a cycling club. Two guys in my squadron that are in it are nationally ranked.

Well...I was talkin' on an EMT level. Sorry, I didn't make that clear. :)

Ugh. I'm hoping the cycling club doesn't discriminate against people that live in very flat, bike unfriendly areas.

I had no idea there were that many clubs. Everyday I become more and more excited about the possibility of going to the Academy.
