CMC ED 1 Class of 2023

Anyone apply ED1?

Yup so nervous

My son did. Football recruit. I have heard that applicants could hear as early as 11/15. Is that correct?

I just applied. I’m so scared.

I thought we found out December 15th. I haven’t heard about anything earlier. I am super nervous. Fingers crossed.

Generally people hear at 5 pm on December 15th, but they could hear before

I have applied ED1 !

This discussion is weak

How are all of your stats? ECs? Unique things about yourself? Academic and intellectual curiosities? What do you all want to study at CMC? More generally, why CMC?

Applied ED from a highly ranked small public high school in Southeastern Pennsylvania.

Stats:
1460 SAT (670 Reading, 790 Math) (One sitting)
4.21 GPA weighted, 3.83 GPA unweighted (Should go up Senior Year) (85% in architecture freshman year :O)
10 APs (2 Sophomore, 3 Junior, 5 Senior) (School doesn’t offer APs Freshman Year)

ECs:
-4 Year Varsity Tennis Player, Captain of Boys Tennis Team, #1 Singles Player, reached State Quarterfinals Sophomore Year, reached a rank of #27 for Boys Singles in PA. Took up a lot of time.
-Put in 400 Hours as a canvasser/analyst for a congressman in a heavily contested toss-up district, which won in 2018 by 2.5%.
-Worked throughout summer at a local food bank, which involved reconstruction projects such as repairing schools and feeding the hungry.
-Worked part-time at local restaurants for 4 years, bussed tables.
-Interned with a banker at Credential, gained experience about the financial world.
-Took online classes in the summer on Economic Theories, since my school doesn’t offer AP Marco/Micro.
-Volunteered in the summer at a Tennis Association, teaching beginners tennis.

I flew out to California and visited CMC twice, then came back and did an in-person interview. I felt like my interview went well as I explained how I think CMC would be a great fit for me, as it is perfect for my major (econ) due to its rigor, study abroad programs, and how it is similar to my high school. I felt my common app essay was very compelling as well, but in the end CMC is a very selective school, and nothing guarantees admission. I really went for quality over quantity for my ECs during high school, as I wanted to convey a message that whatever EC I took on, it would hopefully be better with the addition of me there. My two teacher letter of recommendations were from my AP gov and AP stat teacher, and I believe both were very well-written as my AP gov teacher helped me get the job working for a congressman and my AP stat teacher and I had a great relationship. I also had two letter of recs sent from the Congressman and my Tennis coach, and I felt both conveyed the amount of dedication and work I put in.

Ultimately, I’m really nervous about my decision, December 14th at 8 pm can’t come fast enough  Good luck to all other applicants, hoping we can be future '23 Students together!!

Applied ED from an international school in Hong Kong!

Stats:
30 ACT (worried as hell about this)
41/45 points IB

EC’s:

  • Rugby player at a school, club, and national level (I am applying as a rugby recruit)
  • Leader of the Film Club at my high school (teaching film production techniques to younger students)
  • Musician: I have played in various rock/bluegrass bands since I was 12
  • Interned at a film production company in London.
  • Interned at an intellectual property law firm in Hong Kong.
  • Brazilian Jiu-jitsu competitor (#1 in Hong Kong for my age-group)

My application is extremely sports-orientated, and I’m worried that my ACT score might be detrimental to my application; I really struggle with standardised testing as a whole.

As I’m applying as a rugby recruit, I have been in touch with coaches and got an interview with someone pretty high up in the school (it went really well). I’m basically hoping CMC will understand that my sporting commitments and my enrolment in the IB have taken away from my EC’s.

I know how competitive CMC is, and I’m pretty worried that my EC’s and standardised testing scores are going to hold me back regardless of my essays, high-school grades, athletics, and my interview.

Good luck to everyone! lets liven up this forum :-c

Hope to see you next year @RugbyTom @Burrowsc . I was accepted to the class of 2023 through Questbridge!

Congrats! Mind sharing some of your stats, ECs, where you’re from? @oceantriumph

@Burrowsc Of course! Stats: SAT: 1570, first-gen, 1/390 class rank, 4.3 GPA!
CMC is the best…what major are you considering?

(I also visited a couple months ago and felt interviewing definitely helps!)
I’m rooting for you December 14

@oceantriumph Hoping to major in Econ, might want to minor in Political Science as well. Did a lot of work with Gov’t during high school and I grew interested in that but ultimately want to be an investment banker, so Econ all the way. Solid Stats too, not surprised at all you got in!

Technically, Dual Majoring in Econ and Gov’t.

That’s awesome  @Burrowsc I’m also considering IB and consulting…do you know if the recruiting/opportunities are good at CMC for this field?

@oceantriumph I know job placements are really well after graduating if you’re looking to work somewhere in the West Coast. CMC is a lot smaller than other schools like Berkeley, Stanford, USC, UCLA, so it doesn’t necessarily carry the name and networking if you want to work somewhere like NYC, but getting an MBA at a top tier school can lead to a lot of networking opportunities. I also know CMC has a lot of companies come in and work with the school and there are tons of research opportunities/internships. I’m really hoping to complete my undergrad there and to then move on to get my MBA while also doing internships in the financial world.

Good to know @Burrowsc Do you know how hard it is to get into a top MBA school after CMC? That seems to be the path

@oceantriumph Not too sure about that. I have heard of CMC students later pursuing MBAs at top business schools but haven’t really looked too far into that. I’m sure if you do well (high gpa/taking advantage of clubs at CMC) pursue internship opportunities, and place well on your GRE/GMAT, which CMC should prep you well for, there will be a lot of opportunities past CMC.
