I wrote about santa claus and how his image has affected consumerism, the commercialization of Christmas, and how it's changed the way people see and celebrate Christmas.
is that an ok topic? Is it too impersonal?

I think that's Ok. The essay was supposed to be more analytical than personal anyway - you already have to write a more personal essay as part of the regular common app.

Interesting choice, though. At the very least it will stand out, I don't think too many other people wrote about Santa Claus for the supplement essay.

would you be willing to read it and let me know what you think?

santa clause is a very original choice. it will make you stand out!

Yeah sure I'll read it

ok....i'm writing about a character from sesame street and his impact on education, television, and the market. should i stick with this or just write about jim henson, the creator of the muppets, to just piece this better and talk about an actual person. i have all the resources for both but i'm not sure. I need some sort of opinions. please.

brenda-if your writing about how the charactr impacted education, tv,etc., then just write about that character. if you write about henson, did he shape culture and thought, or did the show do that?

true, true. he did do some stuff but i should just stick to the character huh. The character has done more than he has....as far as i know. ok. thanks!. :)

Omg I wrote about santa too... Hah back in dec for the scholarship! I actually started with thomas nast who created his image but ran out of time for his other stuff. I didn't think anyone else would do santa to be honest haha

Lol... Good for both of you. I think Santa was a genius idea. Your apps will probably get different readers so I wouldn't worry about having the same leader.

I wrote about Alexandre Dumas. I just saw one of his books on my shelf, and all these memories came flooding back, so I couldn't resist.

I wrote about RON PAUL

rachael ray all the way

Andrew Jackson

To be honest, I wrote about Adolf Hitler. The topic said A leader, not a good leader or someone we admire. A lot of people told me it was risky but also very interesting, and I figured "hey CMC's not my top choice and when else can I write something like this?" I figured a lot of people would write about Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton, etc. and I wanted to do something different, shake things up a little :) Because Hitler DID change and influence society. And it was an analytical essay which is something I am good at unlike all of the touchy-feely essays about who I am deep inside. Everyone who read it said I brought my point across quite clearly and it was memorable so hopefully it'll be good for me :D

Willie Brandt.

I wrote about Bill Cosby. I mean he isn't the typical leader that you think of, but he did pave a way for African Americans on prime time TV.

bob dylan alll the way! there's power in music...

greg mortensen.
i just read a book about him, three cups of tea, and was super inspired. i'm really happy with how it turned out. :)

love bill cosby
