I know both CME and premed are hard. If I were a CME major, would my GPA be too low for med school? I am talking 3.8+ range. Does any CME major get 3.8+ GPA? What about if one is a member of the honors college alone or the honors college and engineering scholars for medicine?

My roommate is CME (but not premed) and I am Engineering Scholars for Medicine (but not CME, rather BME), so I might be able to provide some insight. Honestly BME matches up much better with the premed reqs, yet premed and engineering will always be a difficult course load wherever you go. My roommate and I are both Honors College and it has been fine so far, he has been doing well in his intro CME courses and I have also been doing well in my intro BME courses. Overall, effort in = results out in college, so your grades and success are what you make of them, they won’t come naturally like they did in HS.

That makes sense. What about ECs? Do either of you have time to do research or clubs? And social life? Is the legend true that one has to choose two of the three: enough sleep, good grades, and a social life? I would like to have a 3.8+ GPA, do research and a few clubs, have a social life, AND get at least 6hrs of sleep. Is that possible? Lol

Well I am doing a bunch of things here right now in terms of clubs and I’m planning on starting research next semester. Idk about my roommate in terms of research, but he is on the Crew Team which he seems to really like (though it is really a drain on his time and stamina throughout the day, he is always tired). I have kept up my grades and have been sleeping well enough, and I have been able to interact with people to my liking. I think the interactions with others (social life) is aided by the fact that I am in the Honors College. However, I would not try to party, be an engineer, and do premed all at once, that is pretty much impossible here. Make smart choices and you will be in smart company.

medicals consider your major and classes taken when they evaluate your premed and college gpa
