When I opened my mailbox today, I saw a big envelope and got all excited. I thought I got into CMU. It turned out it was just a freaking application letter from the University of Pittsburgh.

Not too surprised, and I won’t be going to CIT, but I’m still happy!

What is CAS? HSS or CFA?

Either way, congrats!!

HSS: College of HUmanities and Social Sciences
CFA: College of Fine Art
CAS: shrug

the chat that they talk about in the packet, is that going to be one on one with somebody or like a group chat of some sort?

Group chat. It's actually not that helpful (I don't mean to brag but I can offer much more concrete answers than those guys).

Basically if you ask 'em anything they'll give you a politician's answer.

acceptedalready, i have a question...i have this book where it says students at cmu study for about 90 percent of the time

is that true?!

Most untrue goddamn book ever. Burn it and pee on it.

I studied 2 hours today and tomorrow all I have is an accounting quiz, math hw (which was only 9 questions and you can take it up to 20 times for a full 100% online), and to read 3 chapters of an Econ book.

I think I study about 3 hours on avg each day and I pulled a 3.8 last semester and probably this semester too.

There are only time consuming classes, not hard classes. Some of these classes include comp sci classes, Principles of Econ (if you have it with Klepper) and a few other concept/type classes.

Definitely not that hard to do well here. (Though the reputation helps a lot with recruiters :-D)

hhahahhaha...im actually glad to hear your so normal...i was super excited about cmu untill my dad took out THE BOOK again...lol...it was hidden for like months since apps were long due...and i started reading about cmu and it was like oh all students do is study and most are really dorky and all are geeks and blah blah blah but im pretty sure its not too acurate...i cant wait to visit!!!

I don't know if you've read Walden's posts either but he has been doing extremely well too under a double major which includes his main major of ECE. He is in a frat and has plenty of time to do other stuff.

I think people exxaggerate how much they study though and a lot of the times "studying" equals talking on aim and posting online (like me) or watching TV, etc.

*Decision: accepted CAS,Tepper, waitlisted CIT *

"oh thats another concern...are frats and sororities really big at cmu...im not really into that stuff (i dont think i am atleast) and dont really want to go to a school where it completely dominates"

Nope. Organizational parties are bigger and so are off-campus and house/dorm parties. However, if you're in a frat you'll obviously spend a lot of time there and during orientation the best parties are at frats.

is it a big party school?

any idea when it'll reach los angeles assuming that mine was sent yesterday?

"is it a big party school?"

Only if you want it to be. The normal thing to do is to party on friday/saturday. More/less depends on you.

Social life at CMU depends all on the individual. The entire city of Pittsburgh is yours as is the colleges of U.Pitt/Duquesne etc. You can party all weekend at U.pitt if you want and go to school at CMU on the weekdays. People sometimes don't realize that if you are outgoing, there are tens of thousands of college students just down the street (U.Pitt).

riyam, I am in Orange County. Someone in CA already received it today, but I didn't. I am expecting it tomorrow, but I suppose it could come as much as a couple days later. There is also a theory that acceptances are going out before rejections, so rejections may be significantly later.

How long are they sending them out? Someone said until April 1st another said until April 15th...If i had to guess I'd say April 15th because if they got around 20K apps, that means they'd be sending out 10k a week until April 1st pretty much...does that make sense? They told me Monday or Tuesday to exepect it and if they are going until April 1st, then I feel like it'll probably be a rejection opposed to April 15th because next monday or tuesday is still early and still hopeful
