2010 thread for waitlisted people

Just wondering how many people got waitlisted from CMU so far from CC board ??

I got waitlisted for CIT and MCS
3.55 uw GPA (killer) v580m800 32 ACT (35science and math)

Who is going to accept the waitlist option ??
CMU is still my #1 choice even though i got into an excellent engineering school (illinois). I REALLY want to go to CMU so bad....

Just accept it. I think you have a good chance to get off it. Perhaps you could talk with the admissions office.

Definitely keep up your GPA and send in additional recs/essays/etc. ANY kind of rec telling the school that your 580 is not representative of your academic skills would be extremely beneficial.

english isn't my first language
so i had a rough time on the verbal part

you should have taken toefl

I did take Toefl
I don't remember the score, but it was near perfect score
I didn't submit it because I thought 29 on the Verbal part of ACT is good enough to show that I can at least speak english lol

OMG are you serious? SEND IN THE TOEFL and tell them what you just told us.

by when do you get off the waitlist and when does the WL closes?

i was waitlisted................I will get on the waitlist and visit.

i was waitlisted from HSS and Tepper. I still haven't gotten my actual letter yet, though....? I checked my status online. However, I did recieve this letter about the financial aid. Something about a reduced income form

My friend's dad (used to work at CMU) is a personal friend of the President ? Dean ?? of the office of admission and said he would write a nice letter for me....hopefully that will help me get in

If I call the office, do they tell us why we were waitlisted and what we could do to improve our chances?

Do normal waitlisted people have a decent chance of getting in ?? I know its about 70~80% for priority waitlisted but I would like to know the average % of the waitlisted list.

Usnews says

Qualified applicants placed on waiting list: 2,709
Applicants accepting a place on waiting list: 271
Students enrolled from waiting list: 120

Does that look about right ?

waitlisted for tepper

this kills me, CMU was my last chance to not go to penn state (main campus)

Luckyboy22, you and I are in the same boat. I got waitlisted to CIT, and the only other (worthy) school that I got into is U of I for ECE. I'm in a pickle b/c I live in Illinois, so I get in-state tuition, which saves me a good 20,000 dollars. But I don't know if I'm the 'big school' type of person... Some one help me out! What do you reccomend I do? Should I go all out for CMU?

Doesn't hurt to try, why not?

ok i got priority waitlisted and i really really wanna go
I asked my teachers for another reference but becasue they are so "strict" (a subsitute word for a word that got ***'ed), their views have not changed about me and cannot write anything that might benifit me further.
what else can i send in? i didnt get any more awards or anything. personal essay?

waitlist here. (iuno if i'm going priority yet)

CMU was and still is my #1 choice, i really love everything I read and hear about it

2290 SAT (800M 770V 720W), top 11.5% (this is what killed me), 5's on AP's, strong ec's, research, from Moscow originally

When I find out how much finaid I get at CMU, I'll decide whether to go priority waitlsit or regular waitlist. Money isn't exactly somethign to be thrown around, and I can just go to Rutgers :/

"what else can i send in? i didnt get any more awards or anything. personal essay?"

Send in the essays and even getting your parents to write you a recommendation can help. Focus on how the school matches you perfectly, yada yada yada.
