ESSAYS:
Common app was fun, about my behind the scenes work in theater tied into why I want to be an engineer, very descriptive, english teacher loved it :) CMU supplement was okay, I was really specific, stayed overnight, interviewed, etc. I also submitted an art supplement for non fine arts majors, I'm in the AP program at my school and teach art classes and I think it was really strong.

Thanks everybody! I’m worried because their engineering school is their 2nd most competitive with an 18% acceptance rate, and I’m just above the reported SAT averages and I’m in around the middle of their 50th% scores. I hope I have a good chance I really love the school :)

My husband went to CMU and he sometimes does the alumni interviews in our area…while CMU (and all selective schools) are really a mystery as to who & why they let people in I read your letter out loud to him and he said, “she compares very well - on paper - to kids that i’ve talked with.” So there you have it…you can’t count on anything but I feel lucky for you!

Oh wow awesome! SouthernHope, that’s a really great perspective and makes me super hopeful an actual interviewer’s feedback is wonderful!!! Thanks so much for that input.

I would say you’re in for sure! Good luck!
Btw how long was your supplement? They say it can be a page long, but how many words at most can we use? (I’m also applying CMU in RD)

I’m hopeful that you’re correct. Well, the way that it works is that you upload the word document and the common app converts it to pdf, so it really is one page. It shows up to them the same way it shows up to you in word, try it and you’ll see. So, as many words as you want as long as it’s a page!
