Did anyone get the email today about the priority waitlist being released in a week? It seemed like they have quite a few spots since they said that they are likely going to move to the regular waitlist. Do they accept all the priority before the accept regular wailisted students or can they mix it up? (MCS by the way)

They don’t mix it up, its priority first, and I haven’t received such an email today as of yet (and I am MCS too =D good luck to you). If you don’t mind could you post the contents of the email?

Sure, so even if I didn’t write them a letter of continued interest, I would be selected above the regular waitlist?

Here’s the email:

"Now that May 1 has come and gone, we wanted to touch base with you about the
Carnegie Mellon priority waiting list. *You have selected to remain on the
priority waiting list. *We will be contacting students on the priority waiting
list on Monday evening May 7 to notify them of their admission status.

The priority waiting list is only for those students who have decided that
Carnegie Mellon is now their first choice and, if space becomes available and
they are admitted, will enroll. *If you are admitted from the priority waiting
list on May 7 you must be ready to submit an $800 enrollment deposit by
May 8, 2011.

If this is not your intention (if Carnegie Mellon is not your first choice and
you are not prepared to submit an enrollment deposit immediately) you should
opt for the regular waiting list. *We do plan to admit some students from our
regular waiting list by June 1, 2012.

If you want to remain on the priority waiting list, please send email to
ms44@andrew.cmu.edu with the following subject line:
<your full=“” name=“”> MELLON COLLEGE OF SCIENCE PWL YES</your>

If you want to be on the regular waiting list, please send email to
ms44@andrew.cmu.edu with the following subject line:
<your full=“” name=“”> MOVE TO MELLON COLLEGE OF SCIENCE REGULAR WAIT LIST</your>

If you want to be removed from our waiting lists entirely, please send
email to ms44@andrew.cmu.edu with the following subject line:
<your full=“” name=“”> REMOVE FROM WAIT LIST</your>

Please send your message indicating your choice by Monday, May 7 at 5 pm EST.

Please do not send email with any questions as we will not be responding to
these email messages. *If you have questions about the waiting lists, please
call the admission office at (412) 268-2082.

Best wishes in your future endeavors!

Sincerely,
The Office of Admission
Carnegie Mellon University"

Yeah the interest letters have nothing to do with if you are placed behind a regular waitlist candidate; priority waitlist means you go before regular. I’m wondering why I didn’t get this email yet…if it says I need to email them my confirmation I really should get it soon I hope lol.

I think its good sign that they said they plan to admit some from the regular waitlist. From previous threads, it looks like they’ll send us emails if there are only a few spots at the college we were waitlisted at (these emails are sent after May 1st tho). I’m absolutely scared to DEATH that there won’t be any spots at SCS (where I’m on PWL) since its such a BRILLIANT school. But anyway, good luck to all of you who are waiting for decisions on May 7th.

Did anyone else for MCS get the email because I did PWL for MCS and didn’t get the email yet.

I was told by someone that thesis kinda like a likely letter for waitlists. Is there any truth to that?

Hey gibsonlespaul i’m in the same situation as you but I have received the email.

@ampoboe I don’t think so because on their website they state that they don’t start considering the candidates until May 7th.

Is anyone else on this thread really annoyed by the “waitlist information sessions” that busdriver11 mentioned? I looked through CMU’s website, and I couldn’t find anything about waitlist information sessions or anything encouraging waitlisted students to visit. I would have gladly attended a session if I had known about it, but I guess its too late now. At the moment, I’m terrified that not going to one of these things will make look like I don’t care enough about CMU. Anyone else in the same situation?

Also, did anyone receive a response after they sent an email to ms44@cmu.edu?

busdriver11 did say barely anyone was there so I think that’s more of a reflection on their inability to get such information across as opposed to you not having interest.

^^Yes, only 3 kids were there. It was mid April, and when I looked at the entire signup list for all the dates before us, there were maybe 8 other kids on there, total. Didn’t see anyone signed up after us. I think they did a terrible job of getting that information out there, I didn’t see it anywhere whatsoever online or in any paperwork. It was a shock to us to find out it existed. The admissions office seems kind of disorganized and overwhelmed, though the admissions officers seem very good. I can’t imagine they would hold that against anyone, not going, but I figure it will help a lot for those that did. At least they might be able to put a face to the name.

My son got two of those priority waitlist emails yesterday. One of those from Tepper, and the other from H&SS. It makes me rather sad that he already responded with the “take me off the waitlist,” but it’s not my choice. So it sounds like they’re sending emails from each specific school. There was a note on there that you wouldn’t get a response if you sent an email to ms44.

how come some people didn’t get the email for hs&ss?

Hi Busdriver, you seem to be pretty educated in this stuff. Could you give me a reasoned answer on which one to choose - Carnegie mellon or Georgia Tech for mechanical engineering? I would really appreciate your advice!

Sorry to be of no use, yash, my kids never looked into engineering. I have no idea which school is better, they are both very strong in engineering. Probably current or former students would be more helpful to you.

If someone has 1/4 million $$ to spend for the next four years, then stay on cmu wait list. Otherwise it is better to go to a public university with good engineering program(s). There are plenty of schools out there.

Hi, what happens if you get admitted but dont pay the $800 deposit?

You can’t go. The idea is that you should only be on the priority waitlist if you’re ready to immediately pay the $800 enrollment fee as soon as they admit you.

Also, does anyone know how big the priority waitlist really is? Because as much as some of the comments here are getting my hopes up, they could be getting hundreds of other kids’ hopes up. I mean CMU could not have under-enrolled to the extent that they would accept everyone off of the priority waitlist.

Ok guys 29 hours and 30 minutes until they start sending emails. I’m getting excited!
