CMU Tepper Requirements

I'm a current junior in high school and my guidance counselor has strongly recommended CMU as a good match school. I've toured and everything and it's probably one of my top choices. My school is extremely crazy about college admissions and we are advised, etc. from our 8th grade year.

My prospective major is business and am interested in the Tepper School's undergraduate business program.

The only problem is I have not taken Physics (he knows this and thinks I should consider taking it next year but I really don't like physics.) I guess I could take it next year but I would have to risk not taking another AP class instead (I would only graduate with 3 APs if this happens because our school only allows us to take 2 AP classes a year and only during our junior and senior years.)

As for other science classes, I've taken Biology, Chemistry, and AP Chemistry. I've also gotten pretty good scores for my required SAT2s for CMU (800 Chem, 800 Math level 2, 780 Bio.)

Do you think I should take Physics and not take an extra AP or decide against applying to CMU?

Take physics if you really like CMU.

Not taking an extra AP will not hurt you. In the secondary school report your counselor will make it clear that the school only allows two AP’s per year and only in junior/senior years. Taking a required course to be admitted at CMU is better than getting that one extra AP.
