In 2013, my two friends and I started a company called _. It was revolutionary, and paved the road for off-road electric skateboarding. We are launching a kickstarter in March, and everything looks very, very, very promising. I am the co-founder and the funds and materials manager at _. I am also a Junior in HS and balance the company and my studies, ec, etc. I would say I am average academically as a student. How much of an impact would this have on my application? Should I put it on my application? Why or why not? Thanks for the help in advance

I’m not a professional at this, but you should definitely put this on your college application as well as tie it into your essay for colleges. This is a huge “Extra-curricular”. Colleges will see your company as a major positive (not much high-schoolers can say they are a co-founder of a business). It will also help you stand out. Just make sure you describe what you do and if your company is big, tell the college that.

Thanks for the comment aboarder. I don’t see why I shouldn’t put in on my app. I just have this nagging feeling that old grandma admissions officer won’t be pleased by some young kid skateboarder.

Thanks everyone!
I’ll definitely include it on my apps!

Doctor,

To tell you the truth, our company started off much like where you are now. I recommend getting a kickstarter started to get the word out. Also, google ads don;t work very well, (we have tried).

This is very interesting to me and others here reading your post. Imagine what an admissions officer would think. They have to look through and read hundreds of other applicants, many of which all are pretty much the same. They’re going to read yours and really be amazed. Add it to your application. That is a great achievement. Beautiful website btw

Thought someone pointed out elsewhere in a now closed thread that the company appears to have been started by some 20somethings or older- but in or out of college age-- not HS.

Yeah, the company is from Australia. I made contact with them earlier this year and offered to help as a contributor for their upcoming Kickstarter compaign next year, and as a US local associate So I’m working with them at the moment as well as getting some valuable training.
