I have a couple of questions about co-oping in GT.

1) Will I have to pay tuition while co-oping (I'm planning on doing it for pay)?
2) Which companies have the best programs?
3) What is the retention rate for most companies?
4) Do companies retain internationals?
5) Is really worth it?

No. You do not pay tuition or fees. The exception would be if you wanted to use campus services (gym, football tickets, etc.) you can pay for access to those services (fees, not tuition). But that is optional.

It varies from major to major.

It varies from company to company. I would guess it’s somewhere around 75%, but that’s just guessing based on what I’ve seen. The biggest issues you find are students falling below some minimum GPA set by the company and students changing majors.

Yes. If a company does not sponsor, it will not hire international co-op students. If they hire international co-ops, they do sponsor. That being said, sometimes visas are more difficult to get than other times, and it’s possible that a company intends to hire internationals, but cannot.

Yes. Without at least 2 semesters of internship or co-op experience, you will not have many interviews at graduation. Work experience is more important than GPA.

I can verify that we were told at the info session that 75% are retained. Yes it is worth it, and tbh, the co-op program for me was the final dead-on seal for my desire to attend GT in 2011.
