COA estimate 15% lower than actual bill

Reviewing my freshman's account status, it seems as though it is nearly 15% higher than the UB estimate posted on their website for NYS residents. I'm sure it is a function of fees. Has anyone else experienced this?

yeah it did look a bit higher than some of the estimates i saw. One of the big fees was the medical insurance fee that was like $1700. If you have good health insurance, you can get that waived though if you haven’t.

The tuition, room & board and fees is about the same for in state as per UB estimate. Previous post is correct about health insurance. You must fill out questionnaire and waive UB’s insurance if you have your own qualified policy. That will reduce the bill by $1700. You must also formally accept any scholarship and aid or it will not be credited. Finally, after we did all that, the amount that came up for us to pay was still off by the amount of the scholarship and TAP grant. I called the bursar and was told that the numbers on the site do not match. She quoted me the exact same number I had calculated myself and told me to pay that amount which I did. I think there is a delay in posting the insurance waiver and merit aid. You should not be paying more than what you originally expected. About $10,400 less deposits and scholarships and aid if any.

Thanks or the responses. Even dismissing the health insurance difference, I find a 1k plus difference in the billing. No big deal yet, just waiting for the waiver of insurance and final bill posting to clear it all up. Even after several years dealing with my D’s Suny billings, I hate that some items are semester based while others are annual or 1 timers. Im a “bottom line” thinker. lol
