I’m a freshman in UB class of 2022. Just attended the orientation at UB. In my UB student account it’s showing that I’ve to pay $4133 including the Tuition NY resident but isn’t the Tuition NY resident cost is supposed to get covered by financial aid? I don’t understand why they charged me for the tuition.
Now there’s another issue, I didn’t know that I’d to accept the financial award letter in my UB account. While I attended the orientation I came to know about this and I accepted the financial award today. I was wondering if it’s the reason UB charged me the tuition fees. It seems so complicated and I’m freaking out thinking that I’ve to pay that huge amount of money . Any advice will be appreciated .
Were you just looking at the charges, like tuition, fees, insurance (room and board)? if so, there should be a page of awards for the amounts you received. It may be that they haven’t applied the awards yet.
It takes a while for the awards to catch up with the charges.
They are always going to charge you tuition and then they’ll offset the charges with your scholarships, grants, loans, payments, etc.
I’m living off campus so they didn’t charge me for room and board . They actually charged for different fees such as health insurance, new student fee, chemistry lab fee, transportation, athletic etc.
Right, they charge you for all the things for this semester (tuition, fees). If there is anything you don’t want or need (like insurance if you have that from another source like your parents) request that it be removed. Somewhere on your portal there should be your student aid awards. At some point they’ll apply those to your account. Look for “FA for Fall 2018” as an option. On there should be your awards, loans (you said you had to accept those, and it might be on that page), Excelsior, TAP, whatever you qualify for.
It’s confusing, but these are the kinds of questions you should have asked at orientation. If you don’t understand your bill, call someone in the billing/bursar’s office and ask them to review the bill and the credits with you.
NY State has not fully ran their numbers yet for all aid programs and scholarships so things might be missing. We don’t get TAP so I can’t help there.
It is confusing, but check your UB portal anyway.
Go to:
MyUB
HUB Student Center
On the left side of the screen select Accept/Decline awards
Accept your aid and/or loans
If you have already done that select Account Inquiry
There are 4 tabs. Click on each on and see what is there.
Summary
Activity
Payments
Pending Aid
If things are missing call Financial Aid. You probably want to call Financial Aid anyway.
Good luck in school and study hard. If you are a STEM major, the classes are much harder than high school and the intro classes are large. Math classes move quickly and if you fall behind, it sucks. Have fun, but be prepared to work. Go to all your classes, take advantage of free tutoring,Professor & TA office hours, review sessions, and any other academic resources available.
Thanks guys I really appreciate it
