Code Breakers-The Movie

There was a lot of buzz about the "Annapolis" movie on the other forum. Now there is "Code Breakers," about the 1951 cheating scandal at West Point. It is coming out next month on ESPN. Based on their past movie efforts, this one has the potential to be a real stinker. Most of it was filmed in Canada so I imagine WP did not offer much cooperation in its making. Here is some info on the movie.

Bossf51: Thanks for the heads-up. I found some additional information about the movie and it may not be a "real stinker" at all.

First, the show is scheduled to air December 10th 9pm EST on ESPN.

There will also be an accompanying documentary to be aired December 6th 8pm EST on ESPN2 . It is suppose to cover Academy education and training, the honor code and system of the 1940s and 50s era; touch on the honor incident, the history of Army football, and Coach Earl Blaik and Army football teams of the same era.

Bill McWilliams '55, author of the book on which the movie is based, "A Return to Glory: The Untold Story of Honor, Dishonor, and Triumph at the United States Military Academy 1950-1953)" is quoted:

I urge everyone to see both the documentary and the movie. From all I've been able to learn while being associated with the productions, the two will delve into the their subjects thoroughly and objectively. Both will, particularly, go a long way, in more depth and breadth than any entertainment and sports presentations in the history of both those industries and the Academy - in educating the public on the Academy, its mission, Army football as played under Coach Blaik, and the honor code and its fundamental purpose, as taught at West Point.

Guess we'll all have our own chance to evaluate the shows.

Thanks Aspen as usual you have good info. I will wait to judge the movie myself...I was going on the past track record of ESPN making movies. For example the "Junction Boys" movie about Bear Bryant wasn't very good and some of the others they've made were AWFUL. But anyway if the author thinks it's good I'll give it a look.
My favorite all-time West Point movie was "The Long Gray Line," about a long-time athletic trainer at WP played by Tyrone Power. They don't make em like this any more.

Great news. Something to entertain & educate me while I wait for my kid to come home for the holidays! Marked it on the calendar. And Boss, I love Maureen O'Hara in any movie! I've not seen this one. Must look. Thanks guys!

Not wasting my bling on Jarhead though. The kid told me not to waste my time. Must be pretty bad indeed. Then again, he thought Water World and The Princess Bride were awesome. Good thing he's at an Academy cause he'd never make it as a critic.

Jamzmom,

That whole go Navy thing has you confused. ;) The Princess Bride was awesome. And I also love Maureen O'Hara in any movie.

Momoftwins: I suspected that Maureen O'Hara was popular in Chicago since they named the airport after her.

How many in here love "The Quiet Man"? Raise your hands! :)
You guys crack me up. Thanks, cause the news was crappy to watch this evening and you've lightening the mood. How many of you are gonna go into secret 007 mode & go see the Annapolis movie? I'm not telling until you do.

We'll see it, but we're definitely going in not expecting any reality. I love the line from the trailer, "50,000 people tried to get in here and 1207 made it. Half of you won't be here at the end." (I'm paraphrasing.) I guess the true story wasn't exciting enough. I just hope it doesn't flood the Admissions board next year when my daughter will be working on her appointment.

Top Gun meets an Officer and a Gentleman, with a little Stripes thrown in?
