I became fairly interested with the Commerce, Organizations, and Entrepreneurship (COE) concentration at ADOCH. I just want to know if any current students have heard any positive/negative feedback since it is a relatively new concentration (2004?). I’m trying to decide if this is what I would like to major it, so any and all feedback will be helpful!

you don't have to decide untill the end of your sophomore year, ask your advisor about it.

If you were at ADOCH, that means that you'll be at Brown in the fall and you'll have plenty of time to take classes in the department, talk to students about the concentrations, meet professors, etc. You really don't need to be worrying during the summer before your freshman year what you're going to major in.

Anyway, I'm not a COE major, but from the few people I know who are, I've heard good things about it.

yeah i know i shouldn't be thinking about it, but i caught a cold so there is nothing else for me to do except look through some info. on Brown's site and hopefully get some input from other students.

is it similiar to cornell's aem program? How does it compare?

(bump) I am trying to figure out what exactly COE is, is it just another degree or is it similiar to an undergraduate business program like AEM?

Also do you have to apply sperately?

What do you mean what exactly COE is? Its the title that goes on your transcript after completing a specific set of courses.
http://www.brown.edu/Administration/Registrar/concentration.html

Its not a separate program, its just a major. You do not apply separately.

You don't apply separately for anything at Brown except for PLME.

i actually chose econs and IR as my concs. but now that COE has emerged, i'm seriously considering....it sounds more...versatile.

can someone link me to COE because its not listed as an academic dept or program...they still have business econ?

has COE acquired a reputation with recruiters?

Recruiters for what? And how can something thats brand new have acquired a reputation?

Holy crap COE is a ton of classes.

Damn them. It wouldve taken me 5 extra classes to concentrate in the old business economics. This thing is like 16 classes. Thats insane!

16 classes is not insane. The ScB degrees or engineering and whatnot require 20+....thats another whole semester on top of COE. You could take 2 concentration courses and 2 electives ever semester and have far more freedom than people at most schools. Not to mention taking 5 courses some semesters.

Well I couldnt get an ScB in bio and ba in IR in four years...

compared to 9-10 classes for bio and 10 for IR, 16 is a lot.

uh no. Bio is 14 for an AB. And you could get an scb and a BA in IR, if you overloaded a few semesters.

Bio concentration:
MA 9 (AP Credit), CH33, CH35 and 10 more courses (AP Credit for BI20)

so 11 classes. my bad.

well i could get and ScB and BA in 4 years and only w/4 classes per semester if I only took 4 electives outside the majors since the ScB is 17 classes w/ AP credit and IR is 11 classes.

but taking only 4 electives would suck.

True, true.....but adding electives as a 5th course snc is an alright option too. AP credit also helps (I love the unassigned bio credit, its the only credit I got for AP)

ohhhhhh that is a good idea!
