COE essay help!!!

hey guys i find the essay topic for the Cornell college of engineering very

difficult.

The topic is:
Engineers turn ideas (technical, scientific, mathematiacal) into reality. Tell us about an engineering idea you have or your interest in engineering. Explain how Cornell Engineering can help you further explore this idea or interest.

The biggest problem I have is that even though I am very interested in math,

I do not know much about engineering concepts. Can I talk about

mathematical concepts instead?(since it related to engineering)

I really want to check out some sample essays with topics simillar to this...

does anyone know websites that might help me? or can anyone post or send

essay or something...or can anyone send me sample essays?

Can you write about how your interest in mathematics developed and why you want to study engineering? Have any of your high school EC's related to engineering or math or science? If so, talk about that. In addition, they want to know why you chose to apply to Cornell. So if you know your ultimate goal, then explain how Cornell's program can help get you there (e.g., do you want to do research, if so, talk about undergraduate research opportunities at Cornell; do you want to get an engineering job right out of college, if so, then talk about their co-op program and how you want to get real world experience; maybe talk about some of the group projects going on there -- check the website). If you don't really know what you want to do, then perhaps you can explain how you have interests in many areas of engineering and that you would hope to take advantage of the numerous and varied course offerings at Cornell, as well as get involved in research or student projects or whatever else about Cornell's School of Engineering appeals to you.

Hope this helps.

Yeah, remember that these essay topics are meant more to prompt you than to act as strict guidelines. You're not supposed to know anything about engineering yet (that is, after all, why you're applying to an engineering college), so just talk in general about what sparked your interest in engineering, how your love of mathematics specifically led to your interest in engineering, etc. Don't feel restricted by the essay prompts.

"OR your interest in engineering"

You don't have to write about a concept, I think they'd be more interested in why you're choosing engineering.

Even though it's done frequently, you could write about a math/science/engineering-related EC. I think that writing about Science Olympiad did the trick for me. If you don't have anything like that to write about, there's nothing wrong with writing about how much you like math. Maybe over the years you've discovered that you like math and science, but you tend to be more interested in its practical applications?

Myarmin,Lianri, and odyssey, I really really appreciate your replies. Now I have better understanding of the topic and I think I will start writing it this weekend :)

you guys literally saved my life. Thanks alot.
