I'm a Cognitive Science admit @ Muir and will be attending in the fall.

I'll be purchasing a new laptop because I feel my current laptop won't be good enough. I've been strictly PC my whole life but I've started to really like the Macs... Right now I'm in love with the idea of a new MacBook Pro.

So is it better to have a MacBook or a Windows laptop as a relatively computer-intensive COGS major (I may also be minoring in Computer Science)? I know there will be certain software needed for the classes - would there be conflicts with either? Are there any pros/cons to either choice?

I used to be ahardcore PC person… but after having 2 PCs in 2 years (both of which have broken down), I have come to realize that PCs are the new American car while Macs are your foreign car (they last longer unlike the American car).

So I’d say get the Mac and bootcamp it so you can run Windows 7 on it (along with the Mac OS)

thanks for your suggestions/opinions…
I’m just struggling with whether or not a MacBook is worth the money or if I could get more bang for my buck with a PC – I’ve never owned a Mac so I don’t know if there are notable pros with them. They’re expensive enough for it not to be a “just try it out!” situation.

I have had my MacBook for 5 years and I have never gotten a virus and the laptop is still in good shape. If you’re not too keen on upgrading often it could be worth it money-wise. I recommend you go to the Apple store and ask some employees.

Get the macbook, you won’t regret it. I had pc laptops for 6 years but then I got a macbook pro and it’s WAY better than pc. Believe me it is SO worth the money!
