Wow! Congrats to your D on Pomona! That’s huge! Kinda wish I applied haha
Thanks! Wishing you the best— you’re doing amazingly well!
Although I agree that test optional resulted in an increase of the average test scores, the 1460 average SAT number is for enrolled students for the class of 2024, not admitted students. Colby never gave the average SAT of admitted students last year, just a 50% range of 1450-1540. So while still an increase, it is not quite as dramatic as it seems.
Good point. But reminder that Colby was test-optional before the pandemic.
True, but test optional was new for class of 2023. For class of '22 they were test flexible (could submit subject test scores instead of sat or act) and the average sat for admitted students that year was 1490. Any way you slice it - impressive scores all around!
Hey, waitlisted applicant here anyone know what their acceptance rate off the waitlist is?
Nobody will know about the WL until May 1. Some years, it has been 0. Others, as many as 50. But if they need 50 girls and you are a guy, it won’t matter.
It really depends on the year. I expect more people to get off waitlists than usual this year due to folks applying to more places, lowering the yield rates of colleges.
@gardenstategal @PerformingDude gotcha thank youu! may 1 is so late though
Hey, I hope everyone is doing great. I wanted to ask if my chance of getting off the waitlist is lower if I need financial aid- I’m also an international. I know it’s so hard to predict all the waitlist stuff but I wanted to hear your opinions about it. Thank you.
I would inquire with admissions as to whether or not that would be a factor. I think it is with some schools and/or they don’t offer anything but federal aid to waitlist admits, but Colby seems more geared toward making sure that those they admit can afford to attend.
Does anyone have any information on the Engineering Dual-Degree at Colby, my daughter is deciding between Univ of Florida and Colby. She unsure about what to major in but is thinking that engineering might be something that she may want to explore. I know they said 4-7 actually Colby students each year are admitted to the program to Columbia Or Dartmouth, But is that out of 7? We are trying to reach out to the school but I thought I would ask here.
I think it’s 7 in total. My sense is a lot more students start thinking this is of interest than actually pursue it.
I would research whether paying for 5 years of undergrad is worth it, even given the two degrees…I don’t think they are getting better or more high paying jobs than those with a 4 year engineering degree. Also look into whether Columbia and Dartmouth guarantee the same level of financial aid as you get at Colby the first 3 years. And…the number one reason (IMO) not many students choose these programs is they don’t want to leave their friends senior year.
Edited to add: Columbia does NOT guarantee to meet full need for the 3-2 students: Combined Plan Applicants | Columbia Undergraduate Admissions
Have those of you who have been admitted received any sort of welcome letter in the mail? Our son received a welcome email and an admitted students postcard, but not a hard copy of his acceptance. Our mail has been squirrely for the past several months, so I’m just curious if this is unique to him.
Last year my D’s Colby acceptance package was the last to arrive and mail delivery was much better then. They didn’t send any swag other than stickers, but that might be different this year which could also impact delivery time.
Good to know. Thanks:)
I received their acceptance folder yesterday! Nice personal note from my admissions officer included! I live in Maine so I probably was one of the first to get it.
We also received Colby’s packet yesterday with letter (with handwritten note), car sticker, etc. We live in MA.
Awesome, thanks!
