My D will be starting CC in the Fall of 2019. Can anyone give me an idea of what the dorms are like?
Seems that never made it into our tour(s). Also, can anyone offer any insight on the shower situation. D says someone mentioned there are lockers or something like it to store shower supplies?..
Thanks would appreciate any feedback.
They vary by building because frosh are mixed in with other classes. In the coed dorm where DS lived as a freshman, the women’s bathroom had storage cubbies for everyone and several private showers. Someone told me the floors were heated (but I don’t know if that’s true!)
Your best bet is to wait until you get your housing assignment. There are plans of the dorms on the website. You will probably get to attend a sendoff party this summer and the host (and friends) will be able to give you specific details.
Thank you so much for your help. Good to know these things.
My son has had great rooms 2 years in a row. The dorms are different, so I agree that you should wait and see. He has been happy overall with the dorms.
My son opted for Sub Free, so frosh year he was in Leonard on Hillside. I’ll leave it at most frosh had nicer accommodations than he did. And the move-in/move-out was a BEAST as Leonard is the highest of the five Hillside dorms, and he was on the top floor. He’s in Coburn this year, and it’s much nicer. (ground floor, to boot, so move-in took like ten minutes.)
AFA showers: this year the bathrooms has cubbies (roughly 14"x14"?) that are plenty big. Pretty sure he had them frosh year as well, but I can’t recall for sure. IOW no need for a plastic shower caddy.
Other thing about the dorms: there was a small fire in a dorm room in IIRC July 2018, from a tipped over candle. So this year, they’ve been rather strict with inspecting for and enforcing dorm safety rules: no shoes in the hallways, smoke detectors and thermostats must be uncovered, no ornamental lighting not even low voltage/wattage string lights, no candles even if you even light them, etc. Not saying you won’t get away with it, but they are looking out for it. Or at least what all the emails from admin say.
And there are a fair number of pets in the dorms as ESA, in case of pet hair allergies.
This is such great info. Thank you for sharing,
