I am deciding between colby and hamilton for ED2. I have heard that hamilton has a higher reputation but is it that much harder to get into? and is it even a better school?

if anyone knows some good pros and cons I would really appreciate it.

While it is true that USNWR ranks Hamilton higher than Colby, in my opinion that is a trivial difference. Both are equally difficult to get into.

Visit both schools and go where you think you will fit best, you cant go wrong
It is silly to simply focus on a ranking

S#1 looked at both and applied ED to Colby as he preferred the atmosphere and location to Hamilton. He is now a freshman at Colby and very happy
Follow your bliss!

I agree with MOM...you would be splitting hairs to make a decision on how they are ranked. Go where you think you fit better. Personally, I liked Hamilton better last year when I was looking. I found it friendlier and I liked the campus and its location better. That being said, I applied to neither because I chose to go west. Good luck...both great schools and you can't go wrong with either one.

I agree with Momof2sons. Our daughter looked at Hamilton along with Colgate, Bates, etc... She didn't feel strongly enough about Hamilton to apply, and got into Colgate and Bates, but followed her instincts and chose Colby over the others. We all feel she made a splendid decision, she loves Colby.
Colgate is also ranked higher than Colby by USnews but she didn't care a bit about the rankings, which are highly subjective and sure to change every year to sell more guides. Bottom line: the differences between all the top LACs are so minute your job is to see where you best fit and to use your common sense by ignoring rankings.
