So was the essay really such an integral part of the application? Could I have been accepted instead of getting waitlisted if I had submitted the essay.

Life is nothing but a question of ifs. If I had done this, if I had done that… forget about it. Make it “If I do this, I will…” Forget about the past. No use questioning the unquestionable.

well said @vivakiouskrish…:)

Got it today. Live about three hours away from Colgate. ACCEPTED!!! CAR STICKER AND NOTE FROM GARY ROSS AS WELL.

Haven’t heard anything yet. Hope it’s for the best… although it’s probably because I’m from Hawaii lol.

Son wait listed. Live in NYC, decision arrived regular mail yesterday.
SAT 2010 (740M, 630CR, 640W)
Full IB
For what it’s worth, the letter stated they’ve accepted 27 and 35 students off the waiting list in the prior two years.
Good luck to everyone!

Regular decision: 2050 (800math); SAT II physics 800; mathII 740; GPA 3.75; rank 35/180 captain of 2 swim teams(elite swimmer); life scout working toward eagle; APs; wrote all required essays; play guitar

Got my letter today, accepted!

Quick question…
I live in NJ. People in my town and neighboring towns all received their letters yesterday. However, I have yet to receive anything. Does anyone know what could be going on?

Got rejected like a boss.

People who got accepted were give huge packages to be sent via fast snail mail. People like me, regardless of domesticngeographic location who got rejected, are given USPS mails… Thin ones.

So take whatever you want about that. And sorry for my sour attitude. Not really happy atm.

Was waitlisted by Colgate. My stats are decent 3.7 UW GPA at a top 50 highschool in country (rigorous curriculum) with a 32 ACT and 2090 SAT Superscore. Strongpoint of my app. I believe were my E/C’s (orthopedic internship, directed fundraisers, etc.) and recs. I feel like not visiting the university or requesting an interview showed little interest and my very low EFC (according to FAFSA) impacted me very negatively. Oh well, got accepted into a very academically and socially similar college that I anticipate great aid. You win some you lose some.

But a question, they say they accept like 25-40 off the waitlist every year. How many does Colgate put on the waitlist?

ACCEPTED WITH A 3.09 GPA and a 1960 SAT score!!! All state basketball player though lol… nbd

@amipat01

I saw somewhere they offered 1400+ wait list spaces last year and 600+ accepted a place.
But remember, a very large percentage of the 600+ will probably accept another offer. So the odds are not as daunting as they look. Good luck!!

Colgate usually accepts 20- 30 off the wait list. However no students were admitted off the wait list last year.

Accepted

Intended Major: Biology
GPA: 4.0 (96% average)
SAT: 2180 (760M, 660CR, 760W)
SAT Subjects: 710 Math I, 790 Physics, 670 US History
APs: US History (5), Physics B (5), currently taking European History, Biology, Chemistry, Physics C , English Lit, and Calculus AB - basically all offered at my school

ECs were okay, lots of community work but no sports or artistic talents. I think my reference letters and essays set me apart - that’s what they commented about in my letter. I’m from Canada and applied for financial aid, so I really wasn’t expecting to get in. I’m not too happy with my financial aid offer, its a lot lower than the offers from some other schools. For this reason, I probably won’t attend. Congratulations to those who got in, and sorry to those who didn’t

ACCEPTED

Intended major: Biology
GPA: 4.56+ (103 average)
SAT: 2140 (760 CR, 710 W, 670 M)
SAT Subjects: 660 Math II, 660 Chem, 670 Bio
Full IB Diploma Candidate/APs: Math SL-6, Physics SL-5; Currently taking: History HL, English HL, Biology HL, Italian HL and AP Calculus AB
Extra Curricular Activities: A LOT–my EC resume is approximately 5 pages long and I hold more leadership positions than anyone in my grade (I only know that because I’m getting an award for it at the end of the year). Oh, and I founded a chapter of an international community service club at my school.

What I think set me apart: My extra curricular activities, my essays (which the dean of admission himself HAND-wrote an adorable note about at the bottom of my letter), and my letters of recommendation (aside from my 2 requisite teachers, I also had letters written by my principal and by a Colgate alum who knows me well)

CONGRATULATIONS to everyone who was also accepted, and to those who got wait listed, and sorry to those who didn’t. Good luck to everyone next year!

Rejected xD

Though I’m curious; how do you know what impression your essays had (for those without comment from Colgate)? I MUST KNOW!

Dean of Admissions (Gary Ross) writes a note on all acceptance letters. Me too!

Accepted international from Zimbabwe. Lucrative financial aid…LEGGO!!!
