Let me set this straight....Colgate is hands down my number one choice. I am doing early descision...no ifs ands or buts about it...if i dont get in, ill be really sad...
assuming i do get in, i have some questions:
1. where do most freshman live?
2. is Gatehouse really THAT bad?
3. How competitive is the lotto for Drake and Curtis (the coolest dorms imo)
4. is registration as bad as ive heard (granted...scheduling is a mess anywhere)
5. how do colgate students view campus press such as GatelineTV or the Maroon News? the radio?
6. i love hamilton and the rural aspects, but are students stranded when a trip to syracuse becomes necessary for w/e reason?

freshmen all live at the top of the hill; most freshmen dorms are on the "Freshmen Quad". (as you get older your housing options move down the hill)

Gatehouse is NOT bad; it's a very tight community and you're right next to the best dining on campus as well as the student center.

Curtis is primarily a freshmen dorm, and Drake is completely sophomores. The lotto works on an individual basis, so you get together with the people yuo want to room with and who ever has the best # is your groups #. Honestly, I think you'd have a lot of arguing over which dorm is the "BEST" dorm.my favorite sophomore dorm is Cutten because you get your own bathrooms and there is an AWESOME study study space, and ex-cafeteria, which has group study rooms and big tables.

Registration stinks because you dont always get into the class you want right away, but I have only ONCE not gotten into a class that I've wanted, through perseverance, and that's because I could take it another semester.

I love listening to my friends radio shows. My roommate writes for the Maroon News, and I think everyone enjoys reading the campus blotter! - They've gotten a lot better at distribution of the Maroon News. I don't personally have time for CUTV, but I know people that watch certain shows religiously.

stranded, definitely not. about 50% of the student body has cars, so you will find friends who will want to join. Also, if there is enough interest, the Center for Leadership and Student Involvement (CLSI) can arrange for a bus there and back.

Nope... unless you've been tripled but it shouldn't happen again for a while. Now it's all doubles.

I personally think that Cutten is also awesome- your own bathrooms! Well, it's a suite dorm so you actually share it with 2 or 3 other people.

I agree but I don't think I've been closed out. Profs will let people in after the course's been closed if you're going to major in that area. People usually eventually drop out. Don't worry if you look at the spring registration numbers for the fall classes- the registrar usually sets aside 5-10 seats in every 100-200 level courses for the freshmen. So you're not going to be beat out by the upperclassmen. The only difficult courses to get in are usually CORE classes with certain professors or subjects (like Stats or Mexico).

I read Maroon News. Not really on other parts- not much time.

A lot of peeps have cars but I gotta warn you, they're not gonna lend you their cars easily. You'll just have to catch rides with others. They're just greedy about it- but I understand for insurance purposes too. Cabs can be pretty expensive- don't ever, ever take one from Syracuse! Call Hamilton Taxi to come and pick you up. Also, if you need to get to Syracuse for something more official like doctors or GRE exam, you may be able to find professors or people in town who drive into Syracuse for work. I don't think that anyone's ever REALLY needed to go to Syracuse. Maybe Walmart in Norwich but not so much... Hamilton has enough stuff to last you and there's always all the free shipping offers by online stores.

thanks for getting back to me...its the friendly people on campus like you guys that make me love Gate...
i hope i get in...my favorite number is 12...does that mean I'm one-under colgate grade? hope not!
