I want some honest answers here! i got admitted to rochester and am still waiting on colgate. my question is...what makes rochester better than colgate?... (or vice versa.) I've visited rochester and i loved it, but i also loved colgate too. So if anyone can help me out.. that'd be awesome! Thankss... and maybe see you all at roch next year!!

Colgate is a top notch liberal arts college - meaning they have a great focus on the liberal arts and a rounded education. I don't know much about colgate but I do know that the liberal arts education is an excellent foundation for grad school.
Other top LAC colleges include swarthmore, vassar, oberlin, Amherst

University of Rochester is a top research university while being a very liberal institution as well, many of its departments are ranked on the international level and it received a TON of research funding - something that smaller institutions lack

Top PRIVATE Research Universities - sadly colgate doesnt make it to the top 100 (but several liberal arts colleges did - like wellesly)
URochester - Ranked #15

Notable differences between the two:
The most notable difference is the size, UR is about twice as big as Colgate - which is still very very small compared to huge places like Cornell (colgate ~2k undergrads, 500 in freshman class) (UR ~4k undergrads, 1000 in freshman class) - smaller is better in my opinion.
Colgate will be a slightly more closer/personal experience because of the small size.
Rochester has the #1 music school nearby, Eastman School of Music.
Colgate is largely suburban, while Rochester is considered urban.
Rochester gets alot more research funding than Colgate because it is a stateoftheart research institution - which is made most obvious by the presense of sone of the world's most powerful lasers on campus.

a good friend of mine whom i consider to be a very much intelligent fellow is going to Colgate next year, he got waitlisted to harvard.

its up to you =P

Both shools are top notch . Most obvious differences are research opps and settings. I'd call Colgate more rural than suburban, there isn't a big city withing 75 miles!
Also, I believe the connections you make at Colgate are outstanding. They have a very tight alumni assoc. - great for getting internships, etc.
Wish I got accepted there :-(

colgate is so much better! go there!!!

Jenny, I think you should stop making biased statetments in hope of getting a spot in the end. It's sort of unethical!

lol, dont worry - im sure college2006help knows better than to listen to an apparent dunce like Jenny
